Considering how he’s played that’s decent production.

I wonder if he’ll be the captain of the Olympic team if he plays normal in the 4 nations. He may actually go to the Worlds if it’s in question.

If he plays like this for the 4 Nations the Americans are in for a rude awakening. Other than that, hopefully the tournament teaches him about intensity and what other superstars do around the league. This year standards have really, really slipped injuries or not.

Just look at draisaitl, makes 14M NEXT year, yet he’s out performing Mcdavid and all oilers fans are saying he’s a tier above Mcdavid this season. Matthews can’t even outperform Marner, let alone Mcdavid or draisaitl.

6m overpay. 2m per 3m depth player = 3 extra 5m players which are way better. We got Jerseys and TV rights though.

we could've upgraded to a walker/pesce/montour instead of an OEL or looked into another top 6 LW instead of Patches or we could've even just went all in on one player like a dman above or a winger and still added OEL or whoever the winger we got too

Been a problem since the Big Three’s second contracts. Overpaying them by a combined $3-$4 million cost them Hyman, forced them to trade a 1st for Marleau, and blocked us from acquiring who knows what free agents we could’ve had if we just had a little more money to work with.

The most promising generation of this team in decades, undone because of greedy players and a weak GM.

They all will be I don’t see a winning combination of them. Maybe if nylander was the 4th-5th forward on a team, or Marner was a Kessel on a team or Matthews was a Barkov to a tkachuk with reinhart, Bennett, lundell etc..maybe they can win, but they don’t seem capable of winning as 1, 2, 3 on the same team

This might be the first time since I’ve joined that Matthews is getting hate, otherwise it’s always the other 3, but his play has easily warranted it

Matthews hasn’t quite delivered on the promise of being the second best player in the game to McDavid. I think he’s lived up to the hype but isn’t keeping up with the consistency, drive and playoff success of guys like Drai, Mackinnon, Kucherov and those Art Ross threats, so there’s lingering disappointment there that he’s not hitting the level he should be.

That said, he’s gotten the golden boy treatment for a decade and always got off lightly when the blame share came due and more of the privileges. Yeah he’s better than Marner in the regular season, but he’s been a flop in the playoffs too. His lukewarm captaincy, mysterious injuries and up and down quality of play hasn’t been that enjoyable to follow this year.
