Who are they calling the shots to? Third coach, 3rd GM.

So you would have to believe they have Shanahan's ear and he over rides everyone and then Dubas and Keefe, Tre and Tre, Babcock and Lou were all just puppets. So all the hate towards them was misguided because they had no control. It was just Shanny, Matthews and Marner

Matthews and his agent make "suggestions", as they are known to do. Shanahan, Dumbass, and Puppet Treliving make concessions. Why? They want to stay in his good graces so they can keep him in the organization and the money rolling in for MLSE... and their employment status. Remember when Treliving described the overpayment of Matthews as a "partnership"

Same thing goes for Berube, no coach is going to put themselves in the bad graces of their stars. Especially in year 1. Especially in 2025, where pro athletes are jokes like Matthews who will stop playing because their feefees get slightly jostled. We've seen it multiple times for years now. 5 minutes after "This isn't junior hockey bro." Matthews: :baghead:

The minute Berube stops placating Matthews is the minute the agent's phone call to Shanahan is made, and the countdown to the end of Berube in Toronto starts. Just like Shanahan and Treliving, Berube needs "time". Sure, we've watched this garbage fail every year for over half a decade, but the new guys need more time! Instead of everything and everyone else being wrong, perhaps consider that you're wrong. You're still mistaking correlation for causation, and it doesn't even work here, because they've been separated in half of our playoffs. Berube makes the line-up decisions, and he has a lot of good reasons to put them together. But cue the conspiracy theories...
Here’s a thought. Maybe just maybe you are wrong

They weren’t long getting rid of Babcock when he upset Marner

He's really going to try and play the 4 Nations.. Cynic would say that's his plan... get enough game time to show he's healthy. Shouldn't be anywhere near it if he's serious about winning a Cup..

Matthews and Marner.
2020, 2021, 2022, 2023

81%, 92%, 91%, 71% on ice 5v5 together before last years playoffs. Matthews was injured/ill last year so hard to judge Matthews on last ywars performance.

Since Marner signed for 11 million, hes been stapled to Matthews in the playoffs.

32 pages and a whole heap of mental gymnastics to arrive at the following:
  • Matthews is the best regular season player in Maple Leafs history
    • Been a fan since late 80s, I've never seen a better player when he's healthy
  • Matthews is the biggest playoff disappointment in Maple Leafs history
    • Until he performs and delivers a signature playoff run where he's dominant and takes series over, this will be the case

And yet, lol...HFBoards will HFBoards:

  • For me, a fan since the 70s as a kid, the best player when healthy: Doug Gilmour; Both sides of the puck, could (and did!) change the tide come regular season or playoffs.
    • I think Matthews is by far our greatest talent.
  • For me, the biggest playoff disappointment in TML history: James Reimer: Game 7, Toronto up 4-1 with 10 minutes left and never has such an obvious existential crisis arrested a single player so instantly and completely as those 15 or so minutes when Reimer -- and I was a fan and think the man is a great person, but... - puckered like no one before or since in playoffs games I've seen.
    • I watched with ten minutes left (as I've repeated here often) and the camera panning to Jagr repeatedly murmuring, "It's not over yet..." and I believed. I stood half a foot from the screen the rest of the entire game. I still feel a chill when I think of how many times he was completely out of position in what seemed the worst case of nerves and technical amnesia I've ever seen a goalie of ours exhibit.
