Broken, missing teeth, lol
Could be respiratory, could be a blood disorder causing exhaustion
Sometimes a back gets worse with sitting, and doesn't get worse with exertion, just have to manage it. The way he moves, he's tight there too, but who knows. Last night he was pretty free to start the game, looked progressively worse after each intermission.

This is obviously a concern… however, it’s not a total disaster.

We have proven we can still win without Auston in the lineup… even in the playoffs.

Let’s go get this done.

He should have just got surgery in November (or in the offseason) to address whatever issue . Start playing games in late March.

Not a good look that the new captain is seemingly going to handicap the team come April for... regular season records? Yeah, I am emotional right now. Bad take.

Is there even 13.5 mil of non-cap dump players with 1 year of term we can afford to trade for? Cozens or whatever other 2C option would cost the little dry powder we have left.

I've been thinking something similar.

Basically, not a typical sports injury like the back, knees, concussions, etc. but perhaps a medical condition, virus or disorder of some kind.

The fact that he was even playing in an easy-win (and relatively meaningless) game vs. Buffalo plus it being the first of a back-to-back, less than a week before the holiday break after Berube informed the media Auston was battling through something suggests it's not something they were worried about further injuring via puck, stick, hard check, etc.

Maybe one day we'll know but for now, I'm going with a non-hockey injury or ailment of some kind.

Here’s a thought…. Put him on LTIR! Dude looks like he can’t bend over at all. Take the cap space and go get another star player and bring him back at playoff time. Vegas masters this every season

So what is it.

Hip, Back, Tendons, Ligaments, Muscle, Blood disorder, Breathing disorder, drug addiction?

Seems like this might turn into an LTIR situation. Hold him out until playoffs if necessary. In the meantime grab a couple impact players and figure out the cap for next year in the summer.

Just do a Vegas and LTIR him to the playoffs

Edmonton purposely delayed Kane's surgery as long as possible with 57 different opinions until the timeline fit LTIR that would take him to the playoffs.
Totally! I hope they have a plan.

Quesiton: the said player has to agree to LTIR ?

No idea. All I know is if this was TB or Vegas they’d be saying he’s out 3-4 months and go get another superstar player at his cap hit and magically he’s ok by Round 1

Maybe Nashville wants a redo on the Stamkos contract.

Knies - Stamkos - Marner
Patches - JT - Nylander
McMann - Domi - Robertson

Then in playoffs:
Knies - Matthews - Domi
Patches - JT - Nylander
McMann - Stamkos - Marner

One can dream...

If it is a back problem I can relate. Everyone has their own means to recover but he is playing a tough, physical sport. My back was so bad for so long at one point that it hurt to tie my shoes. Every day it was with me, when I walked, lied down, was at the gym. Luckily I was young enough, slightly younger than him and I was able to recover through simple, disciplined actions.

Again, I'm not a pro athlete so this will be a much bigger task for him.

You can tell that he hasn't been himself all season, it was clear really from the first game.
My sister a few years ago had a choice to meet Wendel Clark, Johnny Bower and another Leaf. She picked Wendel because we grew up watching him. When she met him, he mentioned how his back was so bad that even trying his skates to play with his kids was a chore.

Said he was a great guy just as she expected him to be.

She works for Siemens and they set it up for a bunch of their employees.

Matthews was cross checked in his lower back last night beside the net. If I speculated 2 months ago, his back was messed up, the NHL teams know his injury too and will target him. Matthews cant skate at full power or will not shoot with his usual torque, which points to his back.
