Boston Bruins President Cam Neely joined Felger and Mazz to discuss last night’s loss to the Flyers and the struggles of the B’s.

Felger thinks Chara is done and Cam says no.

Didn't listen to it, but what's Cam gonna do? Say, "Yup, Chara's done. Washed up. Caput. Too bad." Nope, because Cam wants to sell the team to the TV watchers and people at the Garden. Plus, it's a classic example of cognitive dissonance. Our "facts" are that we have Chara on the team, and we want our team to be good. Ergo, we have to believe that Chara's good - otherwise, why WOULDN'T we boot him?

Besides, moving Chara would be difficult - impossible this year with two little Charas coming soon. His contract is Chiarelli'd, so he'd have to agree to any move.

Yes, Chara was terrible last game. He'll probably be medium-to-bad for the majority of the next couple of years, meaning moving him to a second pairing and reduced special teams time would be a good thing. Unfortunately, have you seen the rest of our D? We don't have that luxury. I'd love to have Chara back down to 21, 22 minutes per game, but the math doesn't work out yet.

by all means people, keep saying Chara is bad. It makes it way easier for me to figure out who to ignore.

Same here.

Say what? Right after you ask if his contract can be bought out? Which way is the wind blowing tonight?

Chara is still a good d-man, just no longer a top 2. Most 38 year old aren't top 2 dmen anymore. I don't blame him. It is what it is. Another Chia contract paying a guy until he's 40 with top dman money.

Sarcasm, I think.

As noted in another thread, the overall D corps is poor. That is the problem.

Z can still be effective if paired with a legitimate #2, or even #3. Saddled with what he has to work with, it shouldn't surprise that the result is ugly.

Foe various reasons Chara will not be dealt this season. He will not be here next year.

What I took from that interview is Cam thinks Chara is playing to many minutes. Thus why he alluded to him needing help by saying he cannot keep doing it by himself..I also have a feeling he thinks a trade is worth playoffs. He was mentioning trading assets not able to help now.Very unpredictable.

Anyone with half a brain cel would have noticed Trotman told Chara to take the forward going down the middle than inexplicitly backed off Simmonds and allowed him to go to the net. That was all on Trottman.

Why is Neely even talking to these guys? Blows my mind.
Since 98.5 has the broadcast rights to Bruins games, I believe he has an agreement to guest on the Felger-Mazz show periodically. Not to do so would give the appearance of ducking the media and avoiding controversy.

The only suggestion I would have for Cam is to be more "Belichikian" when speaking with the media.

Incredibly frustrating to watch. Have no idea what Trotman was thinking on that play.

Chara's easily one of the better defensemen in the league still, but you're asking him to carry that entire unit without any way of sharing that load either with a solid 2nd pair or a solid partner. He could hardly do that when he was top 3 in the NHL.

Chara was the one who got caught pinching. Not Trotman.Leave the kid alone will you with your excuses for Chara. The kud tried to bail him out.

TRUTH. Thank you.

You're right, it was a bad pinch. However Trotman should have committed and stayed with the shooter....unfortunately he tried to play the shooter and the pass, which amounted to poor coverage. I'm not hating or blaming Trotman, but that's what happened.

Can't stand those two ass-clowns. Throughout the long hours that they're on they analyze, they dissect, they discuss every nuance of The Patriots and the NFL. This is for 95% of their time on air. Then, when they momentarily shift their attention to the Bruins they want fast answers and they give fast excuses. They know next to nothing about hockey, or about the Bruins draft picks, the Providence B's and/or anyone rumored to be on the trade block yet they want all the answers from Cam just like that. It's almost insulting IMO that they spew their opinions, take no calls, have no real discussion and move on.

This is true when 98.5 first came out the Bz got a lot of airtime but now they are almost as far off the radar as EEI was before 98.5 came on board. Cam is being diplomatic but I find it hard to believe anyone who has watched for years can think Chara now is anything like the Chara of three and four years ago. He is not elite nor a Norris candidate and that is ok but his cap hit sucks and they are leaning on him too hard. Let the kids get minutes and make mistakes and learn this year is not going to be a cup run year and it gets more and more clear..

If you're getting your opinions from Felger and Mazz or listening to them for the Bruins, you might as well wait for Fenway to re-open because hockey is not your sport.

If the Bruins can make a move at the deadline to a team who thinks they can win the Stanley Cup you trade Chara. He is a leader, Cup Champion and can give a team the chance to win. He is left with a $ 6.9 million contract for next year and than a 4 million after which is pretty decent. I think a lot of teams would love to have him for a chance to win the cup and still have cap space . Washington (3 mill), Florida ( 5), Dallas (3.5), St.Louis ( 2.5) are just a few that would love to have him who might be all in since it has been a long time since they have won a cup.

What are cup run teams going to give you in return?

Late draft picks?
