Atmosphere these Playoffs has been Pathetic

real fans being priced out isn't new

although, you have to wonder how much of it is on the TV crews. i'm sure most of these buildings are louder than they sound on TV

Fans barely waving towels, some half-assed chants, and crowd only gets loud after a goal or big save. This has been my experience watching almost every series so far.

Far cry from the 2000s or even 2010s where you couldn't hear a whistle for large portions of the game in many arenas.
Hasn’t viewership been super down as well? Thought I read that somewhere.

I know personally this is hands down the least invested in the post season I’ve been in like two decades. It just seems… odd this year

1. That's common in the first round. The atmosphere gets better with each round.
2. Have you watched more than one series? Toronto's atmosphere sucked, but Ottawa's was great. The Wild's fans were great and the Habs always bring the best playoff experience.

If you are right, my wild.guess is games have gotten more expensive and pushed out real fans. What's left are rich old people. It's the same problem with European football. Compare football matches in the 80s to now. It's gotten so sanitized to appeal tourists.
I mean, they've gotten rid of most of the hooligan idiots and their nonsense but the atmosphere of football games over here is still pretty damn phenomenal in my opinion.

ok pops why not go and show them how it's done
“Think I could throw a rally towel over them mountains?”

Yep. Scotiabank Arena, which admittedly is a morgue during the regular season has been electric through the first two games but the broadcast turned down crowd noise significantly. There are many cell phone videos and also accounts from reporters and fans in the building who said it was extremely loud and rocking.
They actually do this????

Enterprise Center was going crazy last night, Jets fans looked like they were going crazy the first two games. Maybe it’s just the fair weather fans in Toronto

Most broadcasts just seem to have completely awful production and sound mixing. Probably not getting the full picture.
This. I HATE this aspect so much about broadcasts today. They have significantly cut down the volume on the fans/arena ambience. I miss being able to hear the loud goal horns and crowd going nuts, and barely being able to hear even the loudest of the PBP/color guys.

This is not really surprising, the world is growing quieter every year
Sports hype fatigue. Always the same hype, same try hard bullshit out of nothing to create hype that gets kinda tiring. It doesn’t help the last few playoffs years other than maybe a few series and moments has been kinda underwhelming and lacking intensity.

The battle of Ontario is happening and the most interesting side story is Cousins shooting at puck at stolarz during warm up and acting like he committed assault and belongs in jail. It’s just boring and soft. I think the latter rounds it will pick up but this 1st round has been the most vanilla round I’ve ever watched.

Perhaps you’re right, but just in a general sense public spaces have been getting quieter for years now. I would only assume that would apply to live sports but maybe not.
