LEAFS GDT Atlantic Division - Race to the 1st

Insist all you want, none of our past couple of games have been in anyway meaningless. If we had lost these last two games in regulation Tampa would be about to tie us in the standings.
And then the Leafs would have likely won the next two games, because the probably of them losing 3 or 4 games in a row is very low based on how the season has gone. To put it another way, have you noticed that literally nothing has changed in the Eastern conference standings over the past several weeks? The standings are basically identical to what they were two weeks ago, arent't they? As the number of remaining games decreases, the statistical likelihood of teams changing positions decreases.

We’ve also guaranteed home ice against all but Washington in the Conference Finals if the Leafs manage to make it that far with these two wins. Not meaningless.

It's possible, not probable

Agreed but things are far from certain as some have said/implied. Get it done against Buffalo (just one point) then start resting people. The Leafs have really stepped up these last few game which is huge and a great sign that they can perform when it matters.

I love that people are still going through the machinations of how the Leafs can not win the division.
This organization and particularly this core has a reputation and has been known to make the impossible possible. You can't blame some people for feeling this way. They can still very well blow this. And it honestly wouldn't surprise me if they did. Even though they're pretty much at a 99.99% chance of winning the division right now.

Remember my friend. This is an organization that lost to their own Zamboni driver. It's like I said, they make the impossible possible. LOL

Canes can't catch us anymore.

Had they won, they would have been 1 point behind us, racing with us for second place in the conference

It is statistically remote. It is not tight at all.

So to be clear, you feel it's statistically remote that the Leafs lose their last two games with no points and Tampa wins both of theirs? You run any linear regression on that? 'Cause I have a feeling it's not quite as remote as you think it is. Leafs need to to seal this up on their own and not leave it to chance unless you want to play Florida in the 1st round. 1 point. Get 1 point.

I recall that season where the Burke / Nonis Leafs had like a 99.8% chance to make the playoffs with 14 games remaining and went 2-12 down the stretch. Never underestimate this team's ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
some people choose very bizarre hills to die on. Don't have to participate in a thread of people tracking something if you think it is irrelevant because you think the results are already practically set in stone.

If your frame of reference is to pick a random season 10 or 15 years ago with entirely different players in an entirely different situation....okay.

Yea, but till its officially clinched it's not clinched. You can be confident, that's fine, but until it actually happens it's not clinched. You can be all blasé about it, but it's not done yet.
I'm mostly indifferent. I've been saying for months that this is exactly what would happen.
