This race for the division title is eerily similar to the playoff chase of 2017. Tampa wouldn’t go away then too and forced the Leafs to earn that playoff berth honestly. Same thing happening now. Lightning are the hockey team equivalent of a bad cold.

Tampa scores in bunches, usually against not very good teams. That is the basis their goal differential. They are not a Cup threat anymore.

If we assume that Tampa wins out and wins all three games in regulation, they would have 104 points and 42 RW.
If Toronto wins two games in regulation, they would be at 104 points and 41 RW, so they wouldn't clinch.
