To be a Stanley Cup contender, you must first be a DIVISION contender. :help:

Is that realistic for the Bruins?

Healthy McAvoy, Lindholm, and a coach with a mandate should get them over Buffalo and possibly Detroit with no other changes.

Not much on the FA market that moves the needle for the Bruins in one off-season. Toronto may lose Marner and blow up their core, Florida could lose Bennett and take a transitional step back. But I think Ottawa is ready to fill the gap those teams may leave.

Sweeney has a lot of work to do, and the answer to this depends on the route he wants to take. If he just wants to retool on the fly and buy some FAs, we can get into a wildcard spot probably. But long term we may be better off with a more patient rebuild and sacrifice next year.

I agree with ,what you are saying . For the Bruins to become a playoff team next year is going to be a challenge.

I think the better approach is .If and when signing FA's take players that have not been offered new contracts as RFA's .

Swayman: has to be significantly better for the Bruins to have any chance at contending.

I do not see any prospect in the organization that will be able to make a large enough impact to make the Bruins a contender next season.

On a positive note I think three of there prospects could be regular NHL players bye season end
