I’m not buying but it’s interesting

I’d rather have Rooker & Burnes
Usually I would agree, but this year feels different. I think they are going to go to great lengths to make it happen. They know they need to give the fans a reason to come back, and I think they also have avenues of getting pitching help that won't break the bank. They can easily trade for Crochet, and if you can get Soto it will be a selling point for someone like Sasaki. Then work on getting a RH bat and bullpen help and call it a day. They have so much flexibility with the prospects in the system as well as young guys already making an impact on the roster. This is the year to go big while they have this financial flexibility.

Bregman would be an ideal leader/locker room guy for the young group coming up. Raffy isn’t really that vocal guy.

I’d rather just sign Soto though, he’s a big time leader himself (another reason to pay him $650 mill)

Say you get Soto you trade Abreu and your OF is

Duran- Rafaela - Soto

Where does Anthony play eventually

Rafaela legit CF signed long term and Duran keeps improving and already a very good borderline star

I remain very skeptical with the NY teams

Soto-Duran-Anthony with super utility Rafaela (or trade him)

Or

Soto-Rafaela-Anthony (trade Duran)

Anthony likely not ready till mid to late so they probably got minimum another 100 games of evaluating

With Boras involved I don’t buy this good vibe

Red Sox have a budget and should
Mets don’t & Yankees got money, need, and had him so

This is what it boils down to for me.

There are teams with more resources and a bigger need. It's great that Soto was a Red Sox fan and is buddies with Big Papi. I don't think that moves the needle too much. Boras clients typically want the biggest pay day they can get, and I can't imagine the Red Sox will be able to provide that to him.

I tend to agree with this DKH. Super utility role for Cedanne unless he is also moved for pitching. Realistically I think there is plenty of opportunity to play SS considering how frequently Story is hurt. He can also play the entire OF and some 2b. I prefer not to trade Duran if you get Soto. Put him on the bases and watch the RBIs pile up for Soto and Devers. Lot of ways this could go, but if they can move Yoshida it opens up DH too.

I don't think Bregman is going to age well. Defensively maybe, offensively not so much. He's a guy you are ok with leaving after he's given you so much during his prime. On top of it, he'd cost a draft pick. Still, moving Devers off of 3B is a good idea (middle or long term).

Burnes is someone I'd rather stay away from. He's going to be the biggest overpayment this winter. Their first goal should be to secure Snell quickly, he's exactly what they need. The fallback plan should be Fried, but I am not too enthusiastic about him, either.

What of Casas, if Devers moved to 1B?

I'd much rather trade Yoshida than Casas, even though the return would be less.

Can we please move on? Focus on adding starters.

With how slow the offseason moves, I think there will be plenty of time to talk about starters. Soto's always been a pipe dream, so I don't think it's a big deal if we continue the hopium for a few more days. It's certainly better than the alternative (discussing the possibility that even with their increased willingness to spend, players may still be unwilling to sign here).

Yet this rumor keeps showing up, from different sources

Didn't Baerga just take that from a Spanish Ortiz interview saying he wanted Soto on the Red Sox? With how Boras works, I don't think anyone knows anything. He's just dialing up the pressure on teams to maximize the $$$. He's under pressure himself because the Montgomery and Snell situations last offseason made him look bad.

I don’t think it’s happening but I saw similar circulating days ago.

Man...I'm typically as optimistic as they come --- but this scenario seems as likely as me and Salma Hayek spending a weekend together in Capri --- with my wife's approval.

I agree but if they do sign soto it probably wouldn’t be that hard to make that trade happen

I think there are 3 baseball reporters I trust: Passan, Rosenthal, and Speier. Nothing's real until one of them says it.
