I was gonna be 100% satisfied with either netminder.

Hasek requires more team-building challenges because he hates defensemen blocking his view, yells to take the puck carrier or take away the pass, in either event don't try to shot block, clog the middle or delay decision making.

Hasek would love Orr and hate Potvin.

Notice how the Buffalo dmen stay the f away - they take the man, cuz nights when screened shots score, Dom doesn't hesitate to voice his disapproval. He is a bit of a jerk, but he gets the job done.

My vote would go to Harvey and Howe, but Messier is close.

Neither of those guys can wear the C, so that is a box unchecked that Messier does have.

You mentioned Potvin, that’s a good one, a bit like the D version of Messier. Although I think Messier has more flexibility with linemates than Potvin does with D partners. Both very physical, great leaders and playoff performers.

Harvey checks the PP1 and PK1 boxes in one blow, and excels at both.

Messier requires offense on his wing, as his offense is kind of bad for a 1st round forward. Not difficult to find, admittedly.

Howe has the advantage of working with any center, and centers are deeper in value.

That was my thought process. But yeah, they're all close.

Am I crazy, or is Beliveau the clear favourite to work around? Can work with shooters or passers. Strong defensively. Strong on faceoffs. Playoff monster. The best captain in the sport's history.

He just does everything well.

Doesn't play PK, and while he can work with any wingers, he has a strong history with a certain line structure.

But yeah, he looks easy to build around.

One other thing you could say he is “missing” is he doesn’t have a nasty edge to him. He is big and can play in tough areas and won’t be intimidated, but he’s not going to bully an opponent like a Howe or Messier would.

Edit: plus side of that is less time in the box
