ATD2025 Draft Thread Part II

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
I played hockey, basketball, baseball and volleyball growing up. Was fairly good at all four.

Tried curling once or twice...that shit is way harder than it looks. Realized early on that curling (and golf) was not my forte.

Curling is great. I was a skip for most of my time playing but was known for not being very loud when yelling at my sweepers. Oops.

Stopped playing competitively to start university and then came back a few years later, but haven't played since the pandemic. I do miss curling competitively, seeing dudes that I grew up and played against so many times now playing at the Brier is a real trip!

So this is how I find out nabby isn't 65.
Ty is honestly probably one of the youngest ATDers lol or at least in the younger tier I would think.

Ty, how old were you when you authored the Brimsek book? Pretty damn young I'd bet lol Impressive.

I wrote eight hockey history books in my 20s. Not bad I guess!

Brimsek was out when I was 23-24 I think.

Alright, I'll jump in then.

Regina Capitals select D Joe Hall.

I get two very strong second pairings on D now. Hall was an outstanding defenseman, that also had star time as a RW.
We're building our fourth line, and we're getting a guy that's sometimes played on the second line. He'll be a nice addition to our second PP unit as well. We introduce Sergei Kapustin.

Strong picks.

Hall was another D I was considering when I took Ross.

Kapustin is always good value at LW.

For clock deductions....

nabby12 was skipped
LeafLander was skipped
spitsfan24 was skipped
BenchBrawl was skipped
GKJ was skipped again

Since Professor What picked at 11:16 am EST, and nabby had an hour removed, I'm up at 16:16 EST, or in about an hour 40 minutes. Is my math right?

Tbh, I lost track of all this shit.

Three Rivers is up early and will select this player largely based on value to secure the best 1-2 punch in the nets. RB was largely responsible for not only the quality but depth of information on him over the past handful of years and certainly influenced me in a positive way through hard work.

He finished 11th overall in the pre-merger project, just 1 spot behind Clint Benedict who went way back when at pick 157. You can toss a coin for 2nd best goalie of pre-consolidation hockey, which is a time period spanning over 4 decades.

Welcome aboard Eagle Eye,

Hugh Lehman, G

Another strong value. Although with Brodeur, you could use a bag of pucks as backup and it wouldn't matter.

I'm the import player and skip of Team Newfoundland and Labrador! After a rough start, we just won our first game this morning 10-6 against Nunavut. I'm back on the ice tonight against New Brunswick in another must-win game. It'll be on TSN if anyone enjoys curling.

This is absolutely fantastic! Congrats and best of luck to you and the squad!

Curling is one of those sports I envision was created by intoxicated folks, enjoying -20 temperatures by sliding big rocks over frozen lakes and rivers!

But in all seriousness, it is one of my favorite sports, even as an American, outside of the larger, more popular ones.

Yeah, didn't really "need" him with a workhorse like Marty, but I figure in the event of an odd injury or Imlach wanting to split some reps during the regular season, it's better to take the great value as Lehman is head and shoulders better than anyone left at this point.

With our next pick we're going to add a Dman whom my opinion of has continued to grow as he has progressed into the later portion of his career. A guy who is exactly the type of steady defensive presence you want on a bottom pairing next to Bullet Joe Simpson, and is an elite PKer - killing 56% of his team's penalties on PKs that were 15% better than league average!

Chicago selects Ryan McDonagh, D

McDonagh also has a great playoff resume:
- 1st in both Points and TOI on the 2014 Rangers that went to the Cup Final
- Led all Dmen in non-PP points in the 2014 Playoffs (i.e. ES + SH pts) - important here because he won't be getting PP time on our squad
- 2nd in TOI (to Hedman) on the 2020-22 Lightning teams that made 3 straight Finals, and won back to back Cups
- Led the 2021 Playoffs in plus/minus with a staggering +18 (the highest +/- of any Dman in the playoffs since Brian Leetch's +19 in 1994)
- Also made 2 other Conf Finals as the Rangers #1 Dman and 1 other Conf Final as Tampa's #2 - that's 7 Conf Finals in his career, a lot for the modern era.

I'm literally curling in the Brier right now, so apologies for any delays on my end.

Torpedo Ust-Kamenogrosk selects Nick Metz, LW/C

Metz - ... Wing( ) at even strength who take(s) faceoffs on the P(K)
"Nick was versatile and could score at the right time," said author-publicist Ed Fitkin, who wrote books about the 1940's Maple Leafs, "but best of all was his penalty-killing which ranked at the top of the League."

Source- Metz brothers combined to win Stanley Cup 9 times with Maple Leafs | NHL.com

Nice pick- takes care of an immediate howling need for Torpedo. The man lost two prime seasons to WWII, also.

The Ottawa 67’s are proud to select, from Cardinal, Ontario, one of best defensive forward of his era, a player who was everything but rusty, Samuel «Rusty» Crawford.

This dude is gonna be my backup goalie but I'll pick him first since I would hazard a guess given the criteria of ranking in vogue here (Vezina's and the recent cup) that he'd jump over the guy I have in mind now as my starter.

I have a personal rule against picking active players (unless like it's a Jagr or Datsyuk case) but this is just a goalie so whatever

@Boreal01 seems you have @ImporterExporter's list so just tagging you
