The Dusters select Frank Nighbor, the main cog of the NHL's early era Ottawa dynasty, renowned for his stickhandling, 'Peerless" in defensive play with his pokecheck and positioning, and the NHL's all-time leader in assists when he retired in 1930, the then under-reported stat of the most unselfish team player known for consistent, deft passing. He won the first ever Hart trophy and later the first ever Lady Byng. Plenty of all-time top-100 players have identified him as the best player in the world.

Frank Nighbor at center was a tower of strength to the Ottawas, both offensively and defensively. He was given rather a rough ride by heavy body checks, but returned bumps for bumps...

Just going to sit here and imagine the lost lockout season and a full year of Leetch with the Maple Leafs.

Yeah, as it was they gave away future for not much.. but management’s hands were tied by ownership through that period to keep on trying to patch a leaking ship.

Gallifrey selects Paul Coffey, D.
Of players drafted this highly, by far my least favorite player (there's one that tends to go late as a specialist I hate more).

Don't get me wrong - he should go now and all that - not a reach or anything. Just don't like him.

Gallifrey selects Paul Coffey, D.

Coffey is a pure winner and an underrated leader too. I wanted to go with him despite the fact he is an automatic loss here because the thought of McDavid and Coffey skating together was a joy.

My son talked me into the more conservative great skating offensive defenseman to play with McJesus.

Ill take Bryan Trottier 2 way forward 6 time cup winner

Absolute beast and possibly the best rounded center there is..

7 - he got one for Christmas at Target this year.

As an assistant coach in Colorado!

Coffey is the opposite of a "pure" winner.
(And not a leader in the dressing room.)
He is a lucky *******.
He can skate like the wind, and pass at an elite level, but he leeched off of Gretzky, Messier, Lemieux and four undrafteds in his lucky horseshoe career. His defensive play sucks ***.

He is a zero (at best - his two big game shifts not over valued) defensively, all shifts totaled. Yeah, yeah, two shifts of great intercepted passes he has. But he is only an offensive dman through and through, in an all-time context, and only if he has the guns to back him up.

There's plenty of contemporary quotes about Coffey playing D when games matter + having good leadership qualities as can be seen from bios made on him.

Offense is why we picked him and in that he is better than most D picked before him. Playing with great players heps for sure, but that's true for any player.

You’re preaching to the choir.. I watched him in his prime, did one of the better bios on him, have drafted him and go to bat for him all the time… all I can say is good luck, there is a dogma here about defensemen.

I think I know who I'm going with here - feels obvious but I want to spend some time thinking about it. Give me 10-15 minutes.
