ATD 2012 - Draft Thread I

I had a very interesting option I was considering, but decided to take the boring and easy way out by drafting a top notch #1 defenseman.

Brad Park, D

I'm sure most of you know that he was runner-up for the Norris 6 times, 4 of them to Bobby Orr and 2 of them to Denis Potvin.

Park probably isn't elite at any one aspect of the game as ATD defensemen go (though he's close on the PP). But he's very good at everything.

Here's Stoneberg's excellent profile from last draft:

Good pick at this point for sure. He was my "safe" option if I didn't go with Coffey.

Park is really solid all around.

Sorry gents but I'm at a client today with access only on my phone, I'm going to have to use up a good chunk of my clock. Hoping we can come to a decision at lunch time.

It's supposed to be a 2 hour deduction for missing a 12 hour clock since making us wait that long is so annoying. And it's technically supposed to be the same for trading on the clock. But since Stoneberg didn't make us wait close to 12 hours to trade on the clock, I'd rather give him a 1 hour deduction the rest of the draft, rather than a 2 hour deduction. Is that okay with everyone?

That's fine with me. I have another question about trading on the clock...If you set up a conditional trade before you are on the clock, but have to what until you are on the clock to see if the condition is filled (i.e. the player one team wanted is/isn't available) does it still count as trading on the clock?

No, that's always been allowed.

The trading on the clock prohibition is because in earlier drafts, people apparently would take up their entire clock waiting for trade offers to come in. If you negotiate a conditional trade beforehand, it's totally fine.

Yes. Also, agreed on Park and Pilote. I'm glad to have one of them.

I updated the draft list with the latest trades and fixed an error where we had the wrong pick going from MB to Bugg in the 5/6 rounds.

Reen or vecens or 70s, it would be great if you could expand the listed picks to round 8 or 10.

Here are his % of 2nd place when he was leader: 154, 144, 114, 101, 100

It looks like his dominance is a little over-stated, don't you think?

Compared to Gretzky, no not that impressive, but here are the scores from the times Morenz (1) and Lemieux (3) led the NHL in assists: 129, 100, 100, 100. Compared to that he looks very good indeed.

Remember that Taylor beat the #2 guy by 54%, yet still had more goals than assists himself. Some years you need to triple the assist totals to get the points leaders to look like a modern list would with regard to playmakers.

I think the trading on the clock thing is partially my fault. But I believe I didn't actually end up making a trade on the clock, just used 90% of my clock fielding offers then made the pick because no strong offers were made.

What are Lemieux's scores if you take out Gretzky?

yeah I agree with only 1 hour since he was quick.

throwing a bone like this will encourage the people to make it quick if they want to deal on clock.

With Gretzky, Lemieux's are the 3 100 scores. Without Gretzky:
126, 114, 100, plus three more 1st places: 113, 109 & 103

Thanks. I think the latter is a more fair way to look at Lemieux when comparing him to players from other eras that didn't have to go up against the playmaking super-freak that Gretzky was.

Probably not with JFA, unless he makes a pick at lunch. No biggie, we'll start rolling along after he gets back I'm sure. Just be patient.
