Vlociraptor got a stronger top 5 I believe. Mr. Buggs and MadArcand have good ones too.

Strongest top goes to Seventies I think. Maybe Dreakmur when he finalizes it.

Bucyk - Messier - Selänne
Clancy - Day
Esposito

Modo is stronger too. So is TDMMs.

You have no idea what you just did...

Sittler is a bargain basement #1 center, but you know that already. I didn't know anything about his defensive ability before this draft, but it seems like multiple old Maple Leaf fans have fond memories of it, which can only be a plus.

Sittler actually has better goal scoring numbers than playmaking numbers, so it's good you have an underrated playmaker on LW in Olmstead to help feed Geoffrion. This line is very well equipped to win physical battles with Olmstead there. Olmstead apparently also had something of a defensive game himself, though I wouldn't call him elite in that regards.

And of course, Geoffrion is an excellent triggerman (and very clutch too) who can take care of himself.

The first line by itself relies on a relatively weak #1 center to bring the play up the ice (neither Olmstead or Geoffrion was much of a puck carrier, from what I understand). Enter Larry Robinson - his excellent transition ability is definitely key to this 5 man unit.

Robinson is one of the most valuable defensemen in the draft at even strength - he's just so good in every way possible. Allan Stanley is a bit below average for a #2 in my opinion, but not bad by any means. His first pass and ability to put up points from the blueline will help. Robinson compensates greatly for Stanley's lack of footspeed.

Parent is obviously above average. I think it's unlikely that goaltending will lose you a series.

First of all thanks for the review! Im very glad you picked up on Robinson transitional importance to the unit, a very important factor for this line.

Regarding Olmstead and his defensive presence. He was well known as a great checker, a guy who worked harder than anybody on the ice and his corner play(which is a great defensive ability too, getting puck out of own end). Not sure if this was ever brought up about Olmstead but he was actually incharge of running the Leafs practices during his time in Toronto.

Also, the posts regarding Sittlers great 2-way play are what they are. Like you said old Leafs fans who watched him play posted (I can put a link to the thread if need be) but I look forward to reserching him more and to try and prove his 2-way ability via articles. Either way With the great quote provided by Dreamkur by now drafted coach Toe Blake stating Geoffrion could do it all, Im glad I have a 1st line who could be out against any line in the league.

Just because his corner work was great, doesn't mean it was great in his own zone. I'd like to see more about Olmstead's defensive play, as I've never heard anything about it before. I always assumed he was just average in that regard.

Let's compare shall we:

Geoffrion>Selanne
Robinson>Clancy
Parent>Esposito

Is there any arguements there??

Didnt think so

Obviously Messier>Sittler

Day is slightly better than Stanley (As Seventies already stated he had a tough time deciding between the two)

Bucyk and Olmstead are a toss up. It really depends on what there role is on the line.

And it's pretty obvious (to me at least) Seventies already stated he picked Selanne to be on his 2nd line.

Thanks for the props man, but I'm still scrambling for a D-partner for Cleghorn, had a lot of trouble finding a right hand shot to complement first pairing chemistry with him.

My first line is ferocious offensively, may not have the speed. But at the top of every other category IMO.

:handclap:

Officially the worst post I have ever read on HFboards. Clearly you have never played a game of hockey before in your life. Are the corners in the offensive zone somehow shaped differently than those in the defensive zone? (Give me a break LOL)

Then I will work under the assumption that you have no new information on Olmstead's defensive play, and therefore assume he was below average.

You have Robinson and Geoffrion others have better line ups.

Have a stronger top 5? They both only have one defenseman drafted haha? WHAT?

Macarand defense is clearly weaker. What do we actually know about Herb Gardiner? Because I couldnt find a thing to warrant him a top pairing ATD'r. Belfour is underrated but PArent clearly has the edge over him as well. Broadbent is a one season wonder.

MODO?? He has one of the worst top pairing s in the league. Also who is the physical defensive and toughness factor on his first line? Goulet?..

Dreamkur has yet to draft a LW??

Typical markrander, getting overly defensive when nobody agrees with him. Don't start **** if you can't take it, mark. ;)

It's seems like you can't pimp your own team without badmouthing other's line-ups or players. Your selfpromotion is getting so annoying, i consider to put you on my ignore list.

I could honestly care less, your vote means nothing to me. I particpate in this draft for 3 reasons:

1.)Personal enjoyment of researching hockeys history, and to gain knowledge from GM's who understand the game and have been doing this type of work for an extended amount of time.
2.)To laugh at GM's like yourself who it's quite apparent have never played a game of hockey before in their lives. Who are you to say how a hockey team is suppose to be ran when you've never been a part of any type of hockey team EVER
3.)To pass the time at work

Why does it matter if I've never played a game of hockey in my life? I asked you something simple - prove Olmstead's work in his own zone. Just because he was good in the corners on offense, doesn't mean he's the same in his own zone. Some guys avoid their own zone like a plague. There is no pre-requisite of me knowing what it takes to build a hockey team to ask you to prove things about your player.

Again, I will just assume Olmstead is below average defensively in this draft, since I haven't seen anything to convince me one way or another.

Did you completely miss my post refering to TDMM. I respect his opinion because he actually knows what he is talking about.

Is anything that I have posted not true? How can teams without a fully drafted top 6 be ranked as one of the best?

You seem to never contribute anything worth while reading on here and every once and a while post a smirk feeble attempt at a dig.

Ignore list :help:

Calm down and go get yourself some old tapes of games and watch some of these players and you are clearly overselling Parent.

Its also painfully clear that you get all your information over the internet. Buy some books if you want to know about older players.

I don't understand what playing hockey / not playing hockey is going to teach you about a player neither of you ever saw play. He's asking for documentation to back up a claim you made. Unless playing organized hockey gives you psychic powers (it hasn't for me) that's irrelevant.

As fun as this is, my impression of Olmstead is that he was good defensively, not as good as Dickie Moore.

Olmstead famously bodychecked Gordie Howe at the end of Howe's 49 goal season to prevent Howe from tying Rocket Richard's 50 goal record.

Basically, Olmstead was perfectly willing and able to throw his weight around in both offensive and defensive roles.

But he wasn't a real difference maker on defense, largely do to poor skating. Still likely a plus defensive player.

You shouldnt have much problem with it and I doubt what ever decision you make will be a wrong one. Obviously Mark will think it's wrong though.

:shakehead

Yeah yeah my team so far is all one-season wonders and mysterious players. And it's certainly not built to work together. :sarcasm:

I have several thank you, Overselling? WHAT???

The ATD has turned into who can sell the best, it's painfully obvious.

(comment removed, it adds nothing positive to the draft and could ultimately be inflammatory)
