Our needs for skaters go;
LD
RD
C
RW
LW

He is a good enough value but the worst possible position. We have our top 2 LW's for the next 10-12 years in Ehlers and Connor. When Vesalainen is ready for the NHL we will have to trade 1 of the 3.

There were still good Dmen available at 24.

I voted 'meh'. They went BPA and got a good player. But I can't be excited or even happy. Bummer.

All of Heiskanen/Makar/Liljegren/Valimaki/Brannstrom/Vaakanainen were gone at that point.

Vesalainen was 15th on sir Bobs list, he was the BPA.

Ehlers can play RW, Connor C, Vesalainen RW.

It shouldn't be an issue regardless

I actually really like this pick. He's a very skilled, strong and smart player -- I think he's already a better skater than some highly-rated peers, with a decent 2-way game. Sucks to have miss out on Lily and a few others but if he commits to his development he could surprise.

Not many wingers taken in the first round - is it possible Vesalainen becomes the best? Seems like top 10-15 talent just lots of high potential defence and centers also available.

This is a completely random theory but looking into Vesalainen's attitude problems, there may be some synergy with Laine's own similar kind of past problems.

I mean if Laine plays a huge season 17-18 and it is widely known he had attitude problems, what is Vesalainen going to do? Be the winger that came a year after Laine and never grew up, bit**ing and moaning himself into obscurity?

I'm so glad the Jets grabbed Vaseline before taking a big D.

...

...

I'm sorry.

It's Christian Vaseline, goddamnnit, not to be used like that!

...

...

I'm sorry too.

If he plays in Europe vs men it does not burn an ELC year correct? Enjoy Finland for a year or two :D

Nope, the usual ELC Slide rules apply, a year burns only after 10 games up in the N.

There's no hurry to sign him though anyway if it's agreed between him and Jets that he'll stay in Europe for now.

Is there any way to watch Liiga games on a delay (I don't mind paying for it)? I would like to watch Vesalainen's games next season but not at 7-8 am my time. I watched about a dozen of Niku's games' streams last season but watching them live that early was not fun. Is there a service (paid or otherwise) that would let you watch the games later in the day?

Ruutu+ has the Liiga rights for next year, I don't know if they show the games outside of Finland, have never had that but likely will get for next season.

The online service Ruutu has the rights for the 2017-18 Liiga season, and they sell it as part of their "Entertainment&Sport" package for 29.95 €/month Finland. To my knowledge they would have a program library where you can watch the games afterwards.

They have most of the content geoblocked for viewing from abroad because they have rights to show the only in Finland, but Liiga should be visible from foreign IP-addresses according to their webpage.

I failed to find an email address to contact them, but this form at the end of the page will do instead if you want to ask them about the availability to other country:

http://www.ruutu.fi/asiakastuki

It has annoyingly a simple anti-spam question that's in Finnish and expects a written form answer to it.

Thanks, after stumbling along on their website, I think I found the package I need to subscribe to https://kauppa.ruutu.fi/6kk Hopefully it works outside of Finland

You want to **** on him to push your narrative. This works both ways

I have never done that. Maybe you should read my posts instead of just assuming?

Perfect. Atleast the english translation of their page claims "Watch anytime, anywhere" which I assume means that there are recordings avaialable can be accessed outside Finland

I just checked and 6months deal looks to be 19.95 per month.
If you want to go without commitment it's 29.95 per month.

That's the 6 months fixed term package. You get one month free I guess but are tied for the 6 months then. There is the other option that's 30 per month but is terminable anytime.

They specifically answer the question in their Q&A. Most stuff is geoblocked, but Liiga, our American Football league, and our own version of baseball are viewable abroad.

Identifying yourself for the purposes of ordering will be impossible the normal way though, so you must contact them in any case. You would obviously be paying a lot for very little.

The last six players to lead the WJC-18 in scoring were Jost, Matthews, Nylander, McDavid, Dumba, and Kucherov. It's hard to ignore that tournament success even when the beginning of his season was a mess. I think he's a steal.

And he looks like Ivan Drago from Rocky IV!

U18 MVP and scoring leader at #24 is absolutely steal. Yes there is character issue and it's called being a finn. Im sure you're already familiar with it, one seems to be inwards on discussion, lack of interest, awkward, response very little if at all, avoid eye contact. He will be fine, Armia and Laine will be perfect mentors for him.

You might want to make sure he doesn't end up coming over and playing in the AHL hah. It's unlikely to happen but you never know

I've been subscribed to Ruutu since January, I've never had a problem and yes all Liiga games are archived.
