Prospect Info: At 18th Overall the Winnipeg Jets Select C Chaz Lucius

Sad news, very talented kid that won't get to realize his dream.

Hope it brings him some solace having a diagnosis and knowing how to manage it moving forward. I can't imagine how much it would have sucked just thinking you were injury prone getting hurt all the time over the years, at least now he knows what is going on.

Man that's shity , hopefully he can lead a somewhat normal life now.
As I mentioned a few posts back, I have this. He'll have a pretty normal life just has to be careful with sports and being active. I wear orthotics and if I feel my knee is giving me issues, just pop on the knee brace. I still ride bikes, go for walks, just have to be a little careful at the extreme stuff, ie don't be playing flag football etc.

You'd think that they would have ruled that out after his 11th injury before he was 21 years old

Needed Dr House on the case, I guess
House wouldn't even have taken the case it was so obvious.

Ehlers-Danlos should've been high on the list of suspects after had a couple of joint separations/dislocations, and if he was unusually flexible.

It's a real shame for him to have to give up on a promising hockey career. Walking onto the Winterhawks a few years ago and putting up 15 points in 6 games was impressive. The guy had high end skill.

I have this. When I was 15 my knee popped out playing high school football, and it's been popping out 3-4 times a decade since.

Add to ankle and foot sprains, it's no fun. But hey! I can so some neat party tricks with my thumbs and fingers!
As does my daughter. First time her knee popped out was provincial team trials when she was 16. Managed to play sports for several more years but eventually ended up with shoulder and back surgeries.
I think Chaz has access to much better health care than most of us but this is a remarkably tedious process to get to the diagnosis. My daughter without going through the system that Chaz did took until 24 to get the actual diagnosis. So I suspect the process was faster for Chaz, but still similar in they are trying to rule everything else out first.

Best of luck to Chaz and sorry for him to not have his dream realized. I hope he has great success and health in the rest of his life.

I agree about the diagnosis, I lived with this for 30+ years until I was diagnosed at age 45, then it all made sense to me. Just can't over exert yourself, and familiarize yourself with rehab techniques when something goes wrong.
