That would give Bleed even more material for his Boucher memes lol. It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, he'd probably want some chief assistant job though.
Oates was much better than Shaw. The problem with Oates was all the shorthanded goals every other game earlier in 11-12. Even in the dying days of Maclean's tenure we were on like a 7 game PP goal streak, and it was usually the only goals we were scoring. We finished 14th last season under Oates which was only the second time finished in the top 15 since 01-02. Tremblay in 09-10 was the other time. Though Oates did annoy me in the playoffs last year especially the last two rounds when our PP died. Mostly was due to Kovy being unserviceable though.Personally I think we wind up getting some Oates disciple, whether it's a guy he used to work with in TB/currently works with in Washington/played with him, we probably wind up going back to that PP.
I'm excited to see who gets chased out next seeing as how the PP will most likely still suck with the team we will be icing.
I don't really care since Shaw was "meh" but I do know that Bleedred is probably streaking somewhere !!!
The best possible candidate we can sign IMO is Guy Boucher. The guy is a PP specialist and was invited by Pat Quinn to coach the PP for the WJC Canadian team when Tavares and Subban were on it and it was freaking electric. Granted, that team was stacked with talent but the system he used was rock solid.
Granted, the personnel would stay the same but with a great mind working his magic, he might actually move Kovy to the left hand boards (were Stamkos is getting about 75% of his PP goals) and that right there would be a added plus.
I'd love for Kovy to be off the point, but I really think this is a Deboer ''Overruling''. Not to say Shaw or Oates challenged it, but it's something I think Deboer forces. Though Kovy has been on the point his entire time here, and he was from what I remember in Atlanta. His shot isn't quite as powerful from the point. It's great on 5 on 3's, and occasionally other times. He'd be of more use on the boards.
I wouldn't mind Boucher or Paul Maurice. Boucher isn't getting any head coaching job offers in the NHL anytime soon, but as an assistant he may be in demand. Maurice probably could get a head spot somewhere. He's in the KHL now but might have an out clause for the NHL? Even if our PP still sucked I would love Paul Maurice. He could really bring back some of that veteran leadership, and mind that we lost with Oates and Robinson last year.
That's probably beyond any assistant coach's pay grade. Just like Marty's workload was beyond any head coach's pay grade way back when. With our left/right philosophy he'd be taken off the point to play in the right circle anyway. I'd rather him be at the point than on the right boards lol
The PP wasn't Shaw's fault but he just made a bad situation worse with the endless circling system.
