Who would you want to target on D?

I think the challenge is finding a responsible defenseman who can provide offense.

I think it makes a lot more sense to spend this tdl than hoarding assets for an unknown future

I would spend the futures on asset upgrades but I think you still have to be smart - more Jake McCabe multi year upgrade than a Nick Foligno joy ride.

I like the idea of adding Gourde and I am Ok with the suggested acquisition cost. It is this type of examining all of the impacts that makes me more comfortable with a move like this. He was on my list in the original post as someone I would go after for the right price.

Patches Tavares Nylander that's the same.

Lorentz Kampf Dewar that's the same.

all it is, is taking Robertson out of the lineup because I assume he's in the deal, and moving Domi to the wing where he should be and always should have been.

Watching Robertson is painful. Gets knocked off the puck easily. Cannot knock anyone off the puck. Brutal on the cycle.
Swing for the fence and go after O'Reilly again. Or here is a wildcard thought, what about Malkin?

Not as bad, sure, but we're still right up against the cap, as every contending team should be. We're going to need salary out to bring salary in and that has to be factored in the net upgrade analysis.

forsling is closer of liljegren than a steeves or Mcmann.

Forsling was 24 when he joinded florida, had 120 game played and was a D( taking more time to develop). Steeves at 25 had 11 NHL games...

Steeves is pretty close to McMann though. Most of those don't turn out, I know. I feel like he is more than AAAA and there could be a bottom six forward. We should give him the chance to show that here before the deadline so we know what we have either for us or as a trade chip.

Yeah, I have been on the "move Kampf to open up cap space and a roster spot" for a while. I do think he is moveable so I am guessing they don't want to give him up. Tre was the guy that gave him this extension.

With cap going up a larger amount this coming year, he won't be considered (as) overpaid moving forward.

I think Berube wants a stronger, more sandpapery fourth line and that is not Kampf's game. It is not Jarnkrok's either. This is where a trade for someone like Tanev makes a lot of sense. Dewar is showing he can play C and Lorentz is a staple down there.

Reaves proved tonight he has no desire to do it anymore, which that’s his choice he’s 37, too old to be doing that now but we can’t waste a roster spot on him if he doesn’t want to do his job now. Go after someone to play on the 4th line that is capable of playing a regular shift but will bang and crash and fight when we need it.

It does feel like the end is nearing for Reaves. Last night was his chance to remind us why we need him, instead he reminded us of how he has not role and value on the ice.

I don't care if they keep him around and let him DJ the room and all that, but I predict be plays less than 12 games in the second half. Yes, that's too many but we win with him in the lineup anyway.

What we need is to have a team that is tough enough without a bouncer on the bench and I think we are getting there.

I like Lorentz as a fourth liner, he's been pretty solid in every way. Has speed, has been physical enough, has some size. 113 hits, 8 points, positive player... Nothing to complain about.

Kampf has been a good C, but isn't physical, overpaid for his place in the lineup. Good on the PK though. Not very good offensively. I'd replace him if the cost wasn't too high, but finding the right guy might not be easy, to replace the positives he does bring.

Dewar, I'm not too positive on. He's finally put up a couple of points, which is good, but he's the worst of the three 5v5, and lacks size... I mean, love his moxy.. but he's the guy you replace if you can. Olivier would be ideal, but Columbus likes him too much, and he seems to want $ above a 4th liner.

I like McBain as well, but not sure Utah would ever move him.

Third line has been working very well. Obviously we focus on C, but the question is, if we move Robertson off that line, does it stop working? Getting the right piece is key here. Krebs would be my ideal target.

RD... finding a Mo partner that works. Gudas I think is the best fit, of players on non-playoff teams. I'm not sure they move him though.

Not a huge Dewer fan - Thats who I would reaplace.

Lorentz - Kamph - Tanev

Kamph is great if you don't count on him for points - we have 3 other offensive lines to get points - lets make sure we have a great shutdown guy on the roster to assist when we have the lead.
