Nice work. Lots of good analysis there. I seemed to remember McNabb doing well when paired with Greene in the past and maybe they could rekindle that on the bottom pairing. But barring a trade, that means another young guy is going to have to make a big leap to partner either with Doughty or Martinez. I really would like to see Forbort and Gravel paired together on the bottom pairing because they've been paired in Ontario and have done well, but I doubt Sutter would trust them at all. Something's gotta give this summer, for sure.

I think Martinez is the odd-man out. No guarantees that Forbort-Gravel will succeed in the NHL but I do agree Kings have to play them next year.

Doughty-Gravel
Muzzin-Forbort
Greene-McNabb
Scuderi-Schenn

Kings can then explore trading Martinez plus a contract (Gaborik/Brown?) or a "spare" part (Clifford/King?) for either a younger 3-4 dman or a 3C.

I don't think AMart is the odd man out at all. On many other rosters around the league, he'd likely be a top-pairing defenseman "with cup experience". On the Kings roster, he's a solid #3-4 on a decent contract. The real fight is going to be for the #4 slot with 8/6/27 already occupying the other 3 spots. It's highly unlikely we'll see BOTH Forbort/Gravel cracking the top 4 next year, but barring any outside help, my guess is that one of Forbort/Gravel/McNabb will be skating in the #4 spot on opening day.

We have three legit NHL quality defensemen, you don't then go and trade one of them (especially when he's on a good contract). Martinez goes nowhere

I have been pushing for Pysyk for a while. If all it owuld take would be Forbort and a pick then that's a deal I do all day.

agreed 100%..last offseason I was offering martinez for Pysyk to free up cap to re-sign sekera.

This summer it makes no sense. Martinez is needed.

Same, I'd much rather have him than Franson. He has the potential to move up the ranks and would make our D far more mobile.

what would you give for him? Last offseason sabers fans were saying they want LHD. So maybe forbort would have some value. Forbort + 2017 2nd? Is that enough? I doubt it would be enough

Definitely Forbort over Gravel, maybe a lower pick or lesser prospect? I don't see the Sabres trading him tbh, unfortunately.

Martinez makes 4M a year same with Muzzin, correct? He may be a top 4 D man now, but the Kings have to start grooming his replacement in preparation for Doughty's next contract. If you can pawn martinez off to a team to become a top-pairing dman, then I say do it. Then we can trade for a younger 2nd pairing RH dman. Forbort can play in the 3rd pairing.

Or you do trade Martinez + King for a top 4 RHD. Which is what we need most and with the extra cap space sign a 5/6 pairing defenseman via ufa like Demers, Russel, Miller.

Move Greene as well and We have enough cap space for Lucic already as it is. With Martinez and King moved it opens up many other options. Top 4 RHD and also opens up space for Mersch and other youngsters that should be in the NHL.

Gravel is positionally sound and uses his stuck well. He also has speed and can move the puck up the ice. It worked for Muzzin to start with Doughty and i think Gravel has a higher IQ than Muzzin did at that age. He should be along side Doughty.

Gravel-Doughty
Muzzin-Trade(Trouba?)
Mcnabb/Forbort-Demers/Russell/Miller?
Mcnabb,Forbort

So get rid of a top 3 d-man to get a top 4 d-man?

1) no way is that enough for the Jets to do it
2) too much too soon for Gravel
3) Still do not think there woudl be room to sign lucic and Trouba
