Edmonton should just go for Blomqvist. You can get Blomqvist and Marcus Petterson for the price of Askarov.

The Sharks traded away the pick acquired from the Golden Knights. I am not certain we're talking downgrade here.

Let's put the brakes on the hyperbole here. Skinner isn't a shit goaltender. The Oilers need an upgrade in net. No team trades a 1st and a prospect for a lateral move in position.

I realize the trade was made just a few months ago. Will Askarov be happy playing behind Blackwood and Vanecek? He is getting a shot because Vitek is hurt but it is a worthwhile question. He wants to be a starter. This trade guarantees that.
One is probably traded at the deadline and the other leave on July 1. Askarov wont be behind them long.

I see no reason why San Jose would do this. I dont think they have much need for savoie after all their high 1st round pick and the edm 1st will be later. Skinner doesnt do anything for san jose either

There’s zero chance the Oil get Askarov.

This makes no sense for either team.

If I’m SJ it’s an easy no. He fits their rebuild time line and is their goalie of the future. I also don’t think the package offered does anything for them. Way better off with a potential franchise goalie vs a late 1st a year out and winger prospect.

For Edmonton I have zero issue moving assets for a goalie but it should be a guy in his prime or a guy with a few years left in it.

Saros would have been ideal for Edmonton. Nashville in my opinion made the wrong move

Savoie + Skinner for future considerations, i.e. nothing, would be a relatively fair deal.

This is basically a late first for a 4th and one of the best goaltending prospects in the game. Grier blocks Bowman's number if he's offered this trade.
I would trade Savoie and Skinner for Blackwood and a 4th

The Sharks are literally being asked to make a lateral move of a pick and a prospect here. This indignified proposal is rightfully being met with indignified responses.

I’d rather have Bystedt than Savoie, and Vegas 2025 1st instead of Edmonton’s 2026 1st (particularly when we’ve given them an elite goalie talent for $2M a year), but I’d much much rather have Askarov than either.

Don’t want Skinner either unless you’re dumping him for a 2nd (while SJ moves out Blackwood, or something).

Get out of here. We targeted him just recently with a more valuable package and he's been outstanding. Just not for sale.

I love how the justification of the trade is basically Edmonton needs him so San Jose should be nice.

Every team prefers a draft pick this year rather than a pick next year. Picks a year out have less value than current year draft picks. I agree that VGK and EDM are similar in terms of where they land, but why would we want to recoup a draft pick after feeling comfortably trading said draft pick?

If Skinner was a goaltender you or anyone cared about, he would be a positive asset in this trade. He is not. He is an inconsistent goalie that has not been able to get a cup aspiring team over the hump. He's less than valuable on a team without cup aspirations at the current moment.

Askarov has already said he's perfectly fine waiting for a job to open (he also just got called up by the Sharks tonight due to injury), and MG honored that commitment by signing him to a 1-way extension before he even landed in San Jose.

It's also just a really bad idea to rely on winning the cup with a 22 year old rookie goaltender so I can imagine not even Edmonton would be stoked about this, other than it's just stupid good value for them.

All of that being said, the trade does not work for the Sharks and doesn't make sense really for a team trying to rebuild with guys around Askarov's age.
