Great game earlier today between Indonesia and Iraq. Open, end to end, great team play. I was really impressed by the overall product.

China with two scoreless draws against the 'lesser' opposition in the group are in danger of crashing out of the group stages. They probably need a win against China now, though a draw will be ok as long as the other game also ends in a draw then they would progress despite having three points

China doesn't know how to develop in team sports. At least on the male side. So not surprising they haven't scored yet. The other teams they played against had better chances against them.

China vs China seems like a match prime for fixing... should be able to guarantee a win there

Uzbekistan look like a nation on the rise in Asia. Results are getting better and more consistent at every level.

4 points so far this tournament with a big game against Australia on Tuesday.

China didn't score a single goal in the group stage, on the verge of going out with only 2 points. Tajikistan qualified to the knockout stage in their debut tournament, they are ranked outside the top 100 in FIFA

I know why these confederations do it (obvious reasons) but 24 teams is way too much for a relatively weak confederation like AFC with little depth (UEFA and even CAF can get away with it somewhat). We could see multiple teams eliminated with 0 points and 0 goals scored

Anyway the way things are going, we can see a pretty unbalanced knockout stage unless South Korea decide purposely not to win their group. However if Korea do win their group that would mean them, Japan, Qatar, Iran and maybe even Saudi Arabia would all be on the same side of the draw (should the Saudis not win their group)

Malaysia currently 2-1 up on South Korea, pushing SK down to third in the group.

If South Korea lose they avoid Japan in the next round.

For this fed more than most, if they don’t have 24, how can they get the big ol lump sum they know will come from some awful teams

I'm fine seeing small countries in this tournament. It's great for exposure and gives them something to play for.

Should over time bring up the level for the entire region.

Sounds like Iraq got screwed
Nah, Hussein (the Iraq player) did the celebration with team mates, then they all got up and started walking to the middle of the pitch again, where he went down and did the celebration again. The first was fine, and then the second extended celly is what got the card.
