As of TODAY, where is McDavid on the all time list in your opinion?

i don't reslly compile career achievements, and i don't think the hockey being played pre 1992ish can be considered modern hockey.

McDavid is the second best player I have seen, to Lemieux. However, offence always stands out, there are probably some two way forces that could be argued to have more impact.

But ya, #2 for me, since hockey players got paid and the whole world, including Canadians, looked this way, hellbent on becoming millionaires.

Got it. So that 1.94 ppg pace we are ignoring during those two seasons at the beginning of the dead puck era? For comparison Gretzky was scoring at a 2.02 ppg clip at the same age in 89-91.
What two seasons in the beginning of the dead puck era? Scoring rates in the 95/96 season were higher than they are now.

The beginning of the DPE was in the 97/98 season. Lemieux didn't play that year, or the 2 following seasons. He played 134 regular season games in the DPE.

The Dead Puck Era i s technically after the 94-95 lockout right?

Throughout the 1980s, 7.6 goals were scored per game on average. That figure had dropped below six goals per game by the 1994–95 season, and to 5.19 by 1998–99.

Top-5 if he reaches 2000 points.

I think hockey is entering an era where "he needs a cup" could become an antiquated notion, especially for fans of Canadian teams. Most people holding onto this ideal are from a generation that grew up following (or playing in) a league with fewer teams and no salary cap, where having a superstar practically guaranteed you a cup.

We're in an era now where bonafide superstars, guys who are top-3 players at their position like McDavid, Matthews, Quinn Hughes, Hellebuyck, etc. haven't won a cup, and it wouldn't be shocking in the least if these guys never win one with their current teams. Canadian millennials grew up watching players like Iginla, the Sedins, Price dominate and win personal awards but no cups, (and they still received well-deserved praise and accolades after retiring).

Of the many hockey fans in my family and friend group only a couple have seen their favourite team win a cup. I don't think it's a reasonable expectation anymore as most of us, especially fans of Canadian teams, will likely go our entire lives without witnessing a championship. McDavid has already achieved legend status and his trophy case as it stands today is probably close to enough to put him in the top-10.
