As of TODAY, where is McDavid on the all time list in your opinion?

I think he's already top 20, maybe even top 10.

He'll end up top top 5 easily by the time his career is over.

I don't even think it's out of the question that he ends up the GOAT. I wouldn't count out that possibility.

If you really value top three seasons and seven year prime, you can put him in the top ten already. Aside from winning a Cup and extending his prime, there isn't really anything left for him to do.

He'll solidify top five status within two to three years.

He is pacing for 2000 points. Took him 659 games for the 1st 1000. Say we lower his point per game pace from the 1.51 it is today down to 1.35 points per game, he would reach 2000 in 740 more games. Which would be 9 more seasons at 82 games. He could potentially be at 2000 points by the time he is 36.

Only top 5 if he wins a cup.

Can't be a top 5 player without the trophy. I don't care if it's a team sport.

He's a top-10 player and it's really not questionable. He's done things with a consistency that very, very few players have ever matched.

Or to put another way, he is at LEAST wherever Jagr is.

At this rate he will be right beside Lemieux. But in order to achieve that status he has to win a couple cups. It's a big ask for the inept organization he plays for.

I think most have him as the 5th greatest assuming nothing catastrophic happens from here on out and for actual peak ability I would argue he is the 4th best behind Gretzky, Lemieux and Orr

Already top 10 right around Jagr who also has 5 art rosses. But can't move him into the top 5 until he wins. Championships matter in every sport. And if management truly is too inept, then he should switch teams if he really wants to win.

Does that include if he leaves Edmonton at 42 years old and signs a 1 year deal with a contender and wins in a secondary or tertiary role?

For the longest time I felt Mario Lemieux was the best offensive talent I have ever seen. I started watching NHL hockey in 1990.

I'm not so sure anymore.

Lemieux would never be outscored by Kucherov and MacKinnon though. From 1988-97 he only lost the art ross if he was injured that season. And it was to Gretzky anyway.

That's a good point.

I'd still say it's Mario but for the first time ever I'm questioning it.
