You all realize 25th + 55th in a very weak draft plus a possible future second isn't a very big haul right?
It's a first this and a second next but whatever I've seen franson and gaustad for a 1st and that's worse lol

At least. Price has increased exponentially now; one less guy on the market which was already shallow, a bunch of teams that lost out.
Four teams apparently just lost out if we go just based off of rumours: Ottawa, Montreal, Pittsburgh and Nashville.
That doesn't include teams not in rumours, which are probably a handful as well.
I think that's important to note. A 1st rounder one year doesn't necessarily equal a 1st the next/previous.

The Ryan White inclusion isn't completely merit-less. Probably helped push Minny from a 1st + 3rd/4th to a 2nd.
Lots of conditional deals these days. I like it. Helps protect buyers from blow-back and allows sellers to get deals done with good teams who have lower picks.
Edit: Normally a 2nd in a future year might be considered a "lesser" return. A 2nd in 2018 is usually worth a 3rd in 2017 for managers in trades. With the draft being weak, I'm not sure if that applies.

It's not that big of any over payment. Wild get 2 players that can help them, Hanzal AND White. Arguably market demands have pushed Hanzal value to at least a 1st and maybe a bit more to beat out the other suitors. Then ya got Ryan white thrown in who's probably worth a 3rd, but turn it into a 2nd cause Hanzal is the hottest trade deadline get.
Both teams get exactly what they need. Good trade. Minnie is a legit cup contender already and this trade makes them the favourites coming out of the west.
