Perhaps, in hindsight, we can say that Joe knew something we didn't. Either he didn't feel that was the year, or the right pieces weren't available. Either way, he made up for that this year and it paid off.
Yeah it is always easy for a lot of us to say "come on Joe. get this or that guy." But the truth is they are not always available like we think they are or the price is more than we think. The GM, in this case Sakic, needs to be quite convinced that the player is the or one of the missing piece. We say it often but it is still true...it takes two sides to make a trade.

The cool thing about this trade is that JS out-maneuvered Tampa. Tampa gave up far more for Hagel than the Avs did for Lehkonen but Lehkonen had a much bigger impact. And the Hagel trade preceded the Lehkonen trade.

Big part of the price was the contract. Having 3 years of Hagel at 1mil is major for them going forwards.

After seeing Lehkonen play Top6 in Colorado and beeing a big contributor to the teams success, you have to wonder how misused he was in Montreal? The guy seem like a perfect fit and is working his ass off 200ft. He also seem to have a scoring touch, that Montreal could have needed? Why wasnt he used in a bigger role in Montreal, when he clearly has the tools for it?

Montreal didn't have players like MacKinnon, Rantanen and Makar to play with him. He's going to get much better opportunities to score, and he's the perfect complementary player for skilled star players.

With Colorado, each shot isn't so precious.

Exactly. But also, he's going to get more opportunities to score. The way the Avs dictate pace and control the puck should help him a lot. Each time he would get a decent chance in Montreal, he might have felt more pressure.

You would have thought he would be the perfect winger for Caufield-Suzuki then? Still, he was used as a bottom 6 winger.

Are we pretending Caufield/Suzuki are anywhere near the level of MacKinnon/Rantanen?
No but Lehkonen, as the 200ft player he is, would surely compliment a playmaker and a scorer. He is a poor mans Landy...

Everyone scores more with Avs. Every pending UFA should demand a trade to Colorado to boost their future payday.
Defense is big part of that. We have the best puck moving defensemen in the league.

Its bigger part of it than Mack or Rantanen.

Just read the first few pages...everyone here was painting him as a 3rd liner.

Crazy that not only he became a 1st liner and PP1 guy on the Avs but he's been delivering top 6 production numbers ever since he joined the Avs.

He was worth the trade just for his goals in playoffs. Highway robbery.

Arsi was on the "NHLWAM = NHL without a map" finnish show that aired a couple days ago: NHLWAM Summer Camp 5: Jakso 9 Artturi Lehkonen | NHLWAM | NordicBet

No subtitles sorry, but if there are finnish speaking fans check it out.

One story for non-finnish speaking fans, why did Lehkonen throw up before noon at the day of the Stanley cup parade? Because Rantanen woke him up with a white wine mimosa at 7:30.

Well yeah but we can (legally) start drinking at age 18, i think it's 21 for you guys? So we have a better development program!

Also you guys seem to think good beer has "light" in the name, which should be a war crime. In fact in the small store next to my home, i'm not sure if they sell "light beer". It's like, you are drinking beer not making a conscious decision to live healthy.

What's next, "diet" deep fried chicken?
