Is it possible the team leaks this with the PR intention of getting rid of him and not having public backlash for doing so? It may make them look bad, but not as bad as potentially keeping him? Probably more convoluted than what is actually going on, but you never know.

I like the way you think.

There’s no incentive for the front office to leak this. The organization covered it up with settlement money, why would they want it out there?

And irregardless, he still controls whether he gets traded or not.

I still entertain the world where we sign Panarin to a "hometown discount" extension and then trade him for the full value of a 100 point player. The return would alter the franchise like when Florida traded Huberdeau.

Very true, which is why I said the truth is probably less convoluted. Just throwing an idea out there.

Pretty much you advocate to keep the player and then this shit comes out. Like on shirt off your back night too. WTF. The season that keeps giving and giving and never seems to f***ing end. One f***ing soap opera after the other and they're all f***ing grotesque.

FWIW I also don't think it's a good look for Dolan and Rangers upper management and Drury etc. to be keeping this quiet or even keeping it in their back pocket......like for a rainy day? They're not innocents either. Throwing this out in the public on the last day of the season is like a joke. Maybe when they first got wind of it?

PS: on the Rangers site you get a one last look at Kreider on the front page.

Don't forget the NHL is also complicit in this since the Rangers alerted them to this and their internal investigation.

I do not like these type stories because none of us were there. I do not know what happened or did not happen. My natural inclination is to believe her but there have been even worse stories that turned out not to be true years later. I'm not saying this was not true but there is a possibility some things were true and others were not. The timing of it being reported was not great. Also Bread is a professional athlete. If he really wanted to pin a lady down wouldn't he be able to? I'm not absolving Bread. He was married and did do some stuff that he should not have done like inviting her to his room and taking her phone. He most likely made a physical pass at her as well. I just do not feel 100% comfortable finding him guilty of something more serious than that without any other proof.
Proof?Rangers and MSG paid her off...there's your proof.Pretty open and shut case

Are there comparables for this current situation?
Not really, honestly the closest in my mind is Pat Kane rape allegations that ended up seeming like a hoax. But he didn’t even take a leave of absence for that. This is a civil case where everyone has settled, NHL is aware and says the matter is closed, I would guess he plays tonight

The closest comparable is actually when panarin took leave in 2021 for his previous sexual assault scandal. Lol

I mean there are lenty of big name athletes settled sexual assault cases in the prime of their careers. In many of those cases, they were also arrested (but usually not ended up being convicted criminally).

Kobe Bryant, Ben Rothlisberger, DeShaun Watson off the top of my head.

The truth is more likely that Katie is a great reporter and has sources all over various legal departments, HR, Marketing, Social media, etc. Sometimes good reporters just do good reporting type shit.

I think the idea the poster is presenting is that back in 2023, the organization still felt they could build a cup-winning team around Panarin at 11.6, hence their willingness to pay to bury this.

2-3 seasons later, they don't believe it, they've already taken the financial hit from the pay off, so they're willing to take the PR hit to get rid of a player that might otherwise be disinclined to waive his NTC and leave.

Companies, organizations, people pay off accusers all the time even when they don't believe or flat out know the accusations are false. Sometimes it's worth some relatively nominal amount of money to prevent allegations from becoming public, because those allegations can be extremely damaging even if they're eventually disproven.

I'm with you. You're left not knowing who or what to believe. This lady was caught out doing something she wasn't supposed to which doesn't mean she was lying about Panarin......and then the team decides it's going to cover it over. But now it comes out......why?

It's made me review a couple things. The other night the get together with JD and Sam. I have to say if I were JD and I had been fired by Jimmy Dolan for the bullshit reason he fired me for there would be no f***ing way in hell I'd have done that. JD is JD. He can do what he wants. It's not up to me to judge him. Just saying that would be the way I'd look at it. Which brings me to.....I don't trust Drury. Whenever shit happens he comes out of it just fine and dandy. Walked into Gorton's job for instance. Has gone through three coaches already. We watched the business with Goodrow, Trouba---for whatever reason(s) it imploded the room and imploded this season. It's never really been clear. What seems kind of clear is the players don't like him and he don't like a lot of them either. Lindgren is gone now, Kreider will go and maybe Mika and probably Panarin now too. He's found a way to walk away from all these big contracts and there's kind of a smell now. He's the ultimate survivor and the team ain't better for it. He seems to make the most out of every situation. I think he needs to go too.
