You have no idea what their relationship was like and how comfortable she was around him, so let’s not blame the victim here. That is what you are doing.

The moment he takes her phone and says she has to come to his room to get it is the moment that ANY REASONABLE PERSON would have red flags. If you can't see that, that is your problem. I can't read this report, but the non-subscription ones say that an independent investigator was hired and the NHL was aware. Doesn't sound like they hid it from the NHL.

This is not her fault. This never should have happened. I agree that I do not want to raise my kids to fear every interaction and move through this world in a paranoid way. She shouldn’t have had to assume this was a possible outcome. I am on your side with this 98% of the way.

That said: I do think we should be telling our children not to trust famous/powerful young men. I have no problem instilling this stereotype: Famous athletes/ musicians/ actors, in general, live in a warped fantasy land where they are treated like gods and they have the means to get out of all kinds of trouble without consequences. They cannot be trusted in general. Yes, even that guy. Talk to ANY young woman in your life has interacted with people like this. They’re great to watch using their talents. They have often been raised to be great with kids, so that’s positive. And they are typically dangerously self-entitled when it comes to team staff and women they meet.

In no sense have I ever blamed her, Panarin abused her trust. People like you can't see past that. I replied to stupidly made up post, there's no devil's advocate. The soap boxing in here is obnoxious.

The abuse of trust started when the phone was held for ransom, f*** yes I hope any woman or man I know would be wise enough to know not to go up to that room. Someone I'm very close to was assaulted in a very similar way and while we ALL blame the person, she herself says she should've known better. I'm genuinely having trouble processing this now. I thought it was the GM creating a toxic work environment but it was GM managing lawsuit and player toxicity and then allowing himself to take the heat to protect (victim? Player? I don't know).

I've just dropped Panarin from my keeper league but other than the aspect of him being a (alleged*) predator, I don't know what to make of the rest of the details.
