The red cards are certainly worrying. I would think that with this recent spate a lot of it has to do with a kind of nervous desperation as the winless streak stretches on, but it also stems out of simply never having the game under their control, which is one of the most glaring issues with their play for some time now

Southampton has figured out what it takes though. When you have a team that's just straight up average, it's important to lean more towards attack. Their attacking play is much better than their defending and they've been rewarded with results against teams that just want to sit there and defend.
Southampton has a team with a really good physical skill set, so their high intensity pressing game is viable for them. It wouldn't necessarily work for a slower team that couldn't keep up that level of intensity.

We are splitting hairs. I've said I don't think their squad is better than their competition for the top 4, and questionably whether it's good enough for the top 6 when you compare it with Leicester or others.

It's pretty clear to think their squad isn't as good as Liverpool, City, and Chelsea (all quite obviously), and then Spurs, United and probably Leicester are all better(I think Arsenal would bite your hand off for Leicester's midfield and defense). Then, it's certainly closer than you would like with both Everton and Southampton. Is their squad better than both? Probably, but I don't think it's that far off. Heck, healthy Wolves have some parts that would Arsenal would be lucky to have. Heck, I think Brighton's back four is better than Arsenal's.

That's a vast difference between saying they're the 12th or 15th best squad. Even if you're suggesting they're a top 6 side talent wise, they're much closer to 8-10 than they are 1-2. Once again, the manager sucks... and that's clear, but they're also not really blessed with some top 6 side where they can overcome crappy management or major dips in form (which you're seeing from Auba and others). You can say they're a top 6 side, and that's maybe fractionally true, but they're not that much better than teams around them, when you have poor management, form issues, and a questionable midfield/backline.

As for Pepe discussion, I think he would certainly be a different player under a different side. But how much of that is down to management, how much of that would be down to who he would be lining up next to, and how much of it is down to the player himself and not being ready for his situation is a fluid thing. Would he look much better playing for City than Arsenal now? Sure... But he also wouldn't be this giant signing who has to hit the ground running. Pep could work him off the bench, and when he did play, he wouldn't be being asked to carry it from 1/3rd of the way out and create something. He wouldn't have minimal support in the midfield. He could make a mistake or three and there wouldn't be fans wanting to bin him to Siberia. But to act like it's all on the manager or whatever is a bit unfair as well. He picked that situation. He went there. He doesn't give full effort at times just standing around. He looks disinterested. He missed chances he should convert with his talent. He head butted a dude. There are flashes, but dribbling past a dude, or showing a burst is great... but not 80 million great.

Arteta's latest interview: "Last year we won against Everton with a 25% chance of winning, you win 3-2. Last weekend, it was a 67% chance of winning, any Premier League game in history, & a 9% chance of losing, and you lose. 3% against Burnley & you lose, 7% against Spurs, & you lose.

I don't know how any player can read that and not think he is mental

What's the story behind Ozil being frozen out of the squad?

Chinese government don't allow him to play because he spoke up against their genocide. Probably. It is obviously not for footballing reasons, he started every single game under Arteta before those comments began going around, and then he suddenly got frozen out.

"you don't have to outshoot your opponents to win in football. You can instead shoot less, and lose". Wow very comforting

An insecure person speaking about something he knows little of may compensate by speaking at length, using random clichés etc to mask his deficiencies. Arteta is the perfect example. He has no idea how he got into the mess or how to get out yet must give interviews.

The next Arsenal coach is going to have such a good job. Bunch of young talent, most of the old guys leaving shortly, and the smallest imaginable expectations.
You just have to get us 5+ points above the relegation zone and your job is secure.

Martinelli looked great...our clown decided to kill his future.

I just hope we see Nelson. Balogun. Willock. ESR get more than 1 game.... i wanna see us progress and Willian is an atrocity.

Play in Europa and Carabo

People talk about this stuff as if it's evidence that the players are bad. This is a group of mostly CL level players who have been coached for over 2 years not to play that pass. Play it safe. Round the side. Force the cutback.
That is why we are where we are today. Poor coaching. This is also why I think no player will solve our issues.
