Getting hurt in the regular season vs. getting hurt in a meaningless pre-season game? *shrug* I would rather they play 4-6 pre-season instead of 6-8 as the league mandate is now.
3. One against a local college or semi pro as a promo. A home and home against a conference not division foe. Start the season.

That would work.
So it's settled we run for Bettman and Daly's job tomorrow.

Yeah but don't regulars only play 2 to 3 games anyways?

Prepare to get boo'd. :D

The pre-season is spread out so the team will have 8-ish guys in any particular lineup until the last game or two. So instead of gouging the fans for an inferior product and putting players at additional risk for injury, just shorten it and get to the regular season a week earlier.

Love that the second Swayman starts acting like he may not sign with the Bruins, their fans turn on him in a heartbeat. Lots of "we'll be fine without you" and just picking apart his playoff performances. I could only love it more if it blew up in their face and the Bs started awful as a result.

Bruins have had some of the best sweetheart contracts in the league for too long now. Welcome to reality.

Reminds me a bit of the heel turn for Cutter Gauthier in the eyes of Flyers fans.

Boston isn't confident about signing Swayman ?
Even if they are, they still need to make sure they have a backup plan so that 1) they maintain leverage to finish off negotiations (i.e. they lose significant leverage if they cannot even pretend that they're willing to go into the season without Swayman signed) and 2) as a contingency in case negotiations go sideways.

I would like that trade off.

Sounds to me like it's all about the ticket sales baseline needing to be met.

I remember arguments made decades ago about the owners needed ...78... 80... then 82 games just to pay the operating costs. The playoff were where the gravy (profits) were made.

Rumours of the Bruins downfall continue to be just rumours.

I don't know. I feel like the Bruins ended up caving on these negotiations. And a lot of their longevity has been based on their superstars taking discounts.

That precedent has been broken and while it may take a few years I think the Bruins will end up having issues maintaining their high winning percentage.

Sabres fans of all people should recognize the sheer folly of the "eventually things will change" mantra.

Hershey tender Hunter Shepard also on waivers today. He's also someone I think a team could take a swing at along with Bussi before going for Reimer.

It changed when McAvoy got his 8x$9.5M AAV extension on 10/15/2021.

Then you had Pastrnak go from a 6x$6.67M AAV deal to his current 8x$11.25M AAV deal on 3/2/2023.

After this one, the next big deal is Marchand being a UFA next summer at 37yo and coming off of his own 8x$6.13M AAV deal.

But, it sure seems like the days of Bruins players taking less than market deals are gone.
