Around the NHL - The 2025 NHL Playoffs Thread

Looks like oilers emphasizing quick shifts. Jeff caught trying to change during a defensive transition, got caught out of position and led to a scoring chance against. Hopefully he's not too in his own head, I want to see him do well

OK, I know I gotta give this a rest but as you all know.... We had Eichel, Rino, RoR, Montour, EROD, McNabb, Carrier, Lehner...even broken Bogo... on the Sabres roster. Many at the same time.

It's just frustrating when even Skinner scores.....

Are the Sabres simply the NHL Development Program a la the USA Hockey's NDTP?

OK. Rant over.

Yep. NHL’s farm club.

Oh look same final as last year :skeptic: Not sure I see the Oilers taking out Florida with Hyman out, but I didn't see them beating the Stars either. Did the Stars just run out gas/have too many guys banged up ?

Hockey's turned into a game I don't much recognize anymore...

Definitely not a development program but more of a testament to "the right fit" mentality. It's not just a Buffalo thing, other teams give up on players that then takeoff elsewhere. Probably the biggest thing is each regime uses these pieces by choice or force to build their vision....and we have had too many GM's in a short period.

And the same owner the entire time....

No the Stars just aren't nearly as good as the Oilers.....people really overestimate their depth.

I would put that aspect down to also having the best player in the league, who outplayed Rantanen in the series. But Stars depth is pretty old too. Skinner/Pickard are not a better goalie than Oettenger for ie either.

Dallas is the perfect example of building a wagon of a team and not having a 1C
Or not having the depth down the middle when their best players from years past have aged out. Benn, Seguin, Duchene who were once solid and good hockey players showed their age, even going back last year. Those have been dragged back to the playoffs by the rest of the Stars.

Once Ratanen went quiet it was only a matter of time until they got knocked out. Dallas should go into a retool this offseason, they have some solid pieces in place ready for that and ready for better minutes and are at a spot where they still can make them competitive.
