Around the NHL - The 2025 NHL Playoffs Thread

Ekblad should have never been on the ice. I get the whole revenge on Hagel thing, but that forearm/elbow was a major worthy infraction. He should've been out of the game, not scoring an important last minute goal.
Agreed. Between that and missing the offsides on the goal that was called back.... not a good look for the stripes in the game.

Horton shouldn't have been playing in G1 of the Finals. Hockey lacks the verisimilitude to compete with the other major sports.

Also noticed this in Elliotte's feed -

Still amazing how the league tries to take itself seriously when a clear headshot like Ekblad on Hagel is allowed to go unpunished, leaving the offending player to be the late-game hero with the tying goal. "Let them play" encourages teams that do greasy stuff to be greasier. And Florida is the greasiest.

can't believe Ekblad didn't get a fine and/or suspension

Messier was one of the dirtiest f***ers ever. He stove in Jamie Macoun's face with the butt end of his stick. He made a living swinging his stick around people's faces, hitting people with elbows, and generally being a complete anger magnet. Granted, I fully agree with him about Ekblad. That player shouldn't have been on the ice for the rest of the game and that 5-minute PP with guys like Kucherov probably swings the game further. But hey, let' 'em play and all that passing the buck and avoiding responsibility.

Idk how to feel about this Ottawa/Toronto series...

The Sens really annoy me but it would be hilarious that the one time Toronto doesn't have to face Tampa in the first round, they blow a 3-1 lead to Ottawa.

If Carolina goes another year without making it to the finals, I wonder if they would consider trading Svechnikov. Doesn't carry protection until July 1, so he could be dealt at the draft. Rises to the occasion in the postseason, and didnt have a great year this year. There have been concerns that he doesn't fit Rod's system, and as a natural RW he could be a very nice top 6 option for this team. Maybe 7.25 for another 4 years, I wonder if Power or Byram would be a base for a deal. Carolina need D and I think Byram would fit their system well.

They do have Nikishin coming, so they're not that bad off on D, and obviously they could still bring back Orlov. Slavin, Walker, Ghost, and Chatfield all under contract. I'm not sure that they'll be that interested in a D, but who knows. They don't have any potential Necas situations where their hardball approach to negotiating prevents re-signing a guy unfortunately for us.

Zero shot they trade Svech unless he asks out.
