Around the NHL: PTO Season Becomes Waiver Season

Looking at the conference standings, I am once again shocked at how ****ing stupid the forced divisional rival format is for the playoffs compared to 1 v 8, 2 v 7, etc.

CAR/NJ finish 2/3 in the conference, but, oh look, you're in the same division! So the Devils miss out on home ice in the second round while Toronto finishes below them and gets it. VGK and EDM finish 1/2 in the West and have to play each other in the conference semis.

Sure, there's some degree of debating if there's a truly "good" team to face come playoff time, but the current system does nothing but screw teams in stronger divisions and provide what seems like a less than fully earned benefit of home ice and a matchup vs. a lesser opponent for teams in worse divisions.

Seeing the Leafs win the series hurt but damn watching Boston and the Rags implode was enough entertainment for me. Not a lot of teams/fanbases I get irritated by, but the Rags especially have been fun to monitor.

Also let Patrick Kane’s name not be mentioned on this board ever again as a free agent option.

I can only assume the even up calls are coming. Then again, given the Panthers postseason PP woes...

And the Panthers open the scoring. They really need to keep this game 5v5, they've had the edge at even strength.

Reinhart just set up a tap in through the crease and Samsanov absolutely robbed it.
