GDT: Around the NHL - Playoff Edition

People on reddit are blaming Dubas as if this Canada roster shouldn't be good enough to annihilate Denmark even if I were the GM and some rando from the street who can't even spell hockey were the coach. :)

Forsling at 5.75M for 3 more years after this is such a bargain. He's still only 28. I'd happily pay 8-9M for this level of defending on a contender. Plus he chips in 30-40 points with no PP time, and is durable af.
He's missed 5 games the last 3 years combined, over which time he's a +108. He only had 16 PIMs this year.
Most importantly, his level doesn't fall in the playoffs.

Carolina has no bite. I'll allow one Dallas and Florida final but I'm getting tired of all the successful teams being sunbelt no tax teams. Tampa, Vegas, Florida, Dallas yawn.

So the Canes are really gonna lose 16 straight conference finals games huh. Such an insane streak across to maintain over two separate eras
I don't think this is Brindy's fault at all and I know a lot here just love to hate on him so I don't give a shit to just hate on the bloke for no reason.

He was absolutely f***ed over by Tulsky. Tulsky makes a trade for Rantanen, didn't even speak to him and his agent before hand, by this point the entire hockey world knows the Avs are shopping him because they can't sign him and Ranta and his agent playing games didn't help either. I absolutely believe they were playing stupid about the whole thing, what he signed for with Dallas, sure he could have signed that with Colorado but I don't think he ever intended to stay but will play up that boo hoo bullshit Jake Guentzel pulled too about "I didn't wanna leave!" horse shit.

The way Tulsky f***ed him over is just...wow, this wanker was supposedly this next great GM in the waiting type too.

He trades away a top 6 player in Necas, who the Canes were dicking around with contract talks for a couple of years, making him feel like shit, some absolute awful GM'ing there, but they move an 80pt top 6 winger for Rantanen, who then doesn't want to sign there and I guess pouts about it and so they deal him to Dallas, they really should have just held on to him though, for a dwarf and absolutely canned their top 6 by doing so.

The fact that they made it to the ECF is some great coaching imo, but after that, the lack of having that top 6 talent that Tulsky pissed away, is really hurting them and it shows. It's a miracle Hall and Stankoven have put up decent stats in the playoffs, but players like Necas and Rantanen, they make a lot of other players a lot better on the team and also make it harder for the other team to plan against.

I mean it was such a shit show, Brindy literally called out how stupid it was for the team to not even talk to the agent beforehand.

To add to that, I still think its absolutely bizarre they haven't given Suzuki a chance. I mean I would be looking at Suzuki, Nadeau, and Robidas and playing them to inject some life into the team. Nadeau and Robidas are snipers, they have a heavy shot like Stankoven does and are also very offensively gifted players, Robi is a dwarf like his father, but that lad had an NHL ready shot back in the Q, just absolute filth with how he let it fly and even when goalies got a clear look, no chance at stopping it.

They will keep playing Kotkaniemi because of some idiotic payback for offersheeting a marginal NHL turd, but won't give others a shot? Odd. Also lol Jankowski, why the f*** do teams keep giving him a shot? Being a former 1st round that is a bust, really buys you that Mike Sullivan level of chances. On that front, I 100% blame Brind'Amour, to chose some shitty options over some talented youth when you've struggled to score is just really f***ing dumb. Yeah I get it that Nadeau has just finished his first year in the AHL, but holy f*** what a 1st year - 32 goals as a rookie in the AHL is something you don't scoff at and when you need some offense, you throw someone like that in.

Also at 83pts total in 79 games, Necas would have been the points leader. Yeah I am super bias, I have been a fan of Necas' for a while and he was one of the players I really hoped Dubas would get for Jake, but woof to lose him for a player they never spoke to before hand and had the Jake situation the year before, that's just some of the worst asset management from a GM that was supposedly highly thought of for being very intelligent.

Maybe the Conference Finals is just as far as Brind'Amour can get the Canes.

If he goes to a team with actual game changers on it, like, for example, Toronto, maybe he coaches them to a Cup Finals.

He is getting the most out of the roster as it is currently constructed.

I mean this is just dumb by Rod

So he doesn't think Nikishin would be fine? Svech can't help him? Like FFS, Sarge was a huge help to Geno, if your best option is there, you use it, not make excuses about language bullshit. The lack of experience is sometimes a very good thing too. Because either that lad runs off of adrenaline and nerves and plays a hell of a game or he doesn't and you know.

This is why you see some rookies sink or swim in the playoffs super early in their career, like I dunno, a goofy and ugly looking wanker like Jake that was there last year and his lack of experience not being an issue in the playoffs on the Pens.

I would have done this instead of the above that Brind'Amour went with:

Svechnikov, Aho, Stankoven
Hall, Jarvis, Blake
Martinook, Staal, Nadeau - I liken this to Cullen with Jake.
Jankowski, Suzuki, Roslovic - Roslovic can also take the draw and help out, he's been very good at the dot. Jank is just also support for a rookie.

I would sit Kotkaniemi, Carrier, and Robinson.

They got their ass handed to them in the first game, the 2nd game looks about the same, Freddie ain't doing shit, you have far too many players not scoring outside of that 1st line but you have these lads that are absolute studs at offence that have been developing and you don't use them for more stone handed wankers? Lol, he's doing a very good Sully.

Sean Walker is ass, Scott Morrow is also ass. And wtf is he doing keeping Freddie in this still? Lol, f*** sakes. I don't like the Panthers at all and I definitely don't like the Canes, but I dislike them a little less than the Panthers.

Yea, I mean their roster isn't exactly the globetrotters. They don't have a superstar forward, goalie or defenseman and their depth isn't quite good enough to make up for that. They still have great pieces but nothing that puts you over the edge. Maybe Nikishin is that but they aint trying to find out

Really shows how bad washington was lol
Washington making the playoffs alone is a win for them, they were an old team that needed to inject youth into their line-up and needed a coach that could do it and it was meant to be a team that was maybe one that could squeak in and it'd be a nice thing. Instead they did insanely well given the situation Carbery entered into, I know we want to hate the Caps but I mean...being honest here, going as far as they have is impressive and they're a team that is still actually going to get better under this coach and if they keep drafting decent talent and developing them.

Well Brindy choosing to play the vets over some talented youth is not the move right now, especially when the team was playing stingy to beat the Caps and then suddenly can't score vs the Panthers. Also Freddie Andersen turning into a shit show and still throwing him out there is weird, I would have put in Kochetkov.
