GDT: Around the NHL - Playoff Edition

To be honest, I look at that Jets lineup and wonder how they won the President's Trophy. They look to me to be in that "good team, but not great" group of teams.

They're a middle of the pack team if you remove Hellbuyck.

They were three seconds away from losing to the Blues. Yet Sportsnet talked about them like they were an amazing team.

Jets have a good deep team. Dallas does as well. Two of the games the Stars won were one goal games. At this point in the playoffs it’s a game of inches. No one should be acting like these aren’t great rosters.

I don't know what it is about them, they have a solid top 6 and top 4 on D but then it's up to a goalie that either plays elite or shits the bed hard. They don't have that extra gear and their depth is just not as impressive as most think it is.

Their star players needed to be their star players and they did jack shit. Connor and Vilardi had 1 goal each, Scheifele had 3 goals and was so easily thrown of his game most of the series, Ehlers definitely showed up with 5 goals in 6 games. But then outside of those players, Namestnikov and Lowry only had 1 goal, Niederreiter had 2, the rest of their forwards had 0 goals. Their Defense had 0 goals. Perfetti was f***ing useless.

Goals from the defense in the playoffs was pretty pathetic, they were just not getting much depth scoring at all and even when their depth scoring dried up, some of their big guns didn't show up either.

Then there's Helly, I think he did rebound and the Jets kept the Stars to 2.17 G/PG vs Jets 2.33 G/PG - I am talking 2nd round only here. Which is weird because the only other teams that scored less are out - VGK and Caps and Dallas was slightly less shit scoring than VGK (2.00 G/PG in the 2nd round). That Jets PK was awful too, 68% vs Dallas is the worst in the 2nd round.

I will say, Dallas had some of the biggest divers in the 2nd round, some of the shit they got away with was just head scratchers, some very bad embellishment that the refs just allowed them to get away with at the worst possible moments in the game, where as they'd let some things go and let them play but then the Stars would just flop and get a call at a crucial moment and they'd convert because they had an insane powerplay vs the Jets.

our 2nd round pick just moved up.

Partially because they have the smallest barn in the league - 15,225. Over three thousand less seats than the Pens, whom they outdrew. Penguins are in for some scary attendance numbers the next couple of years.
Yes I saw that they had the biggest drop in attendance the last three years, aligning with missing the playoffs.

They’re really going to have to get creative to reverse that. not making the games feel dry and corporate would be a start.

This is also where neglecting development around the arena for years really hurts.
