GDT: Around the NHL - Playoff Edition

On the one hand, this is quite surprising, because even DEL players now take a maximum of 2-3 weeks off after the season and then get back into training.

On the other hand, it also shows what an absolutely exceptional talent Ovi is. Imagine if he had continuously gotten the best out of his body.

He usually gets up to around 260-265 during the off season from what I’ve read

I thought it was always this?

I don't think that's the case.
Back in the 60s 70, and 80s if you could play hockey, you might have a coach or a scout take you under his wing and negotiate ice time and get you on a team.

In the early to mid 90s we saw the proliferation of travel teams and that is where the great rich/poor divide took shape. Then the cottage industry of specialized sports training spun off of that, so a further gulf of rich/poor occurred.

So if you were born in the late 90's and then made it to juniors or higher, it's very likely that your family was middle to upper class in order for you to do those travel teams along with hockey specific training/camps.

Well, Panthers weathered the first period storm by keeping shots mainly to the outside and now (hopefully) it feels like a matter of time before they score a couple on the Leafs.

I know Florida deserves the benefit of the doubt but they just handed Toronto a change to totally redeem themselves with a really shitty performance at home. I would not be surprised if Toronto wins now

I was lowkey rooting for the Cats to come out of the East, but between their exec playing stupid social media games and winning stupid, actually pretty serious Bettman prizes, and the ~USA~ chants, they for sure didn't deserve to close it out at home, and played like it.

I'm ok with it. I really don’t want Edmonton to win the cup at all. f*** those oiler twats. Also f*** Tkachuk.

Looks like it’s the Oilers cup to lose. They’ll face a beat up Dallas or Winnipeg and it’s pretty clear the east doesn’t have much jam this year.
I can see Carolina being a bad matchup for the Oilers. The Canes play with so much structure and have the players to play against McDavid and Draisaitl. Also Andersson has played really good playoffs so far.

I just hope we don’t get Edm - Florida again. I hate seeing repeating teams in the SCF unless it’s the Pens.
