The Caps history pre and post 2018 makes me hate that season even more.

What’s most annoying is that it was totally random too. Minor league plug DSP shows up and scores a bunch of goals before frigging off back to the minors immediately while Washington runs into a Pens team that is completely injured but better than them (then injure more of them), then in the final they run into an expansion team that goalied its way to the final before running out of gas. If Nashville or Winnipeg make that final they beat the Caps in 5 that year. Never seen a more hockey gods throwing a team a bone win than that one

They looked like an AHL team for half the series. Nothing to do with goalies

Capitals were a better team than the Penguins the year before, it happens.

But although the Caps weren't as good in 2018, they and the Penguins were the clear two best teams the 2 years prior so they had some room to fall and still beat pretenders like TB.

It's no wonder Ovechkin's managed to stay healthy his entire career. He does about as much skating as I do nowadays and I haven't skated since I was in my 20's.
