He doesn't need to be bought out imo. That's a pretty easily movable contract. A lot of desperate teams looking for goalies.
Hard pass on taking up another retention slot, for such a small reward.
I would use it on Karlsson.
No team is desperate enough to take on Nedeljkovic.
There's a pretty decent list of goalies other teams would sign for less from the free agent market this summer:
Jake Allen
Ilya Samsonov
Alex Lyon
Anton Forsberg
Dan Vladar
Dave Rittich
Vitek Vanacek
Then there's the RFA goalies that could be moved or available because some teams have goalies in the pipeline and might want to give them a shot if those goalies want a better contract:
Joel Hofer - I could see a team targeting him either offersheet (if he's eligible) or via trade, Blues will need to pay him more than the 2.3m he was getting - Also Colten Ellis basically ready to take his spot makes it a nice trade chip to move Hofer.
Cayden Primeau (Habs have Dobes as RFA, one might be gone)
Daniil Tarasov (emergence of Jet Greaves)
Nikita Tolopilo - I think he could be moved
There's a lot of others as well that teams could deal for that would cost a lot less and likely put up better numbers than Ned has the last couple of seasons. The issue is clearing that spot, if Dubas could dump Ned with a 6th rounder, awesome, but I doubt that given the other options out there, some GM would need to have the worst scouting department in the history of the league to trade for Ned over those other options for less money. I'd rather that spot is left open for a battle for Larsson, Blomqvist, and Murashov. Jarry is whatever, one of those 3 deserves to battle out for a spot and this time not for a team coached to be a shit show. Ned's buyout is easier to swallow.
Then there's the fact that when one of those 3 do win a spot, 2 of them should be splitting time in WBS, not 2 of them splitting time and then also Ned being there buried for his cap hit and being useless for the development of the other 2. The buyout is less of a cap hit than burying his ass in WBS.
