GDT: Around the NHL - Playoff Edition

Yeah, I dunno. Treliving's been kind of a dipshit for a while too.

I'd be bummed if I were a Leafs fan. If they don't solve this quick, Matthews is walking too once his deal's up imo, if he doesn't request a trade before then. He's about to be in year two of a four year deal that expires when he's 30.

Meanwhile Nylander's just kinda left there on an island.
Matthews is the worst "elite player" I've seen in recent memory come playoff time. It's absolutely pathetic how his goal scoring ability disappears when it matters every season.

Yeah it's a mess. All the skill in the world and in a 6'3, 220lb frame, but dude just doesn't have it. Zero clutch genes in there, the opposite of a dawg.

Yeah Dubas ain’t some genius but I’m hopeful he can be in the Doug Armstrong tier. Maybe nothing special but it’s mostly gonna make sense and he’s not gonna brutally f*** you like that list + Chiarelli
Doug Armstrong is a good GM for sure, he mistakes but he quickly fixes them and keeps finding ways to get his team back on track after a setback. I don't see much different from Kyle Dubas to be honest. He's been the Penguins GM for 2 seasons, he's improved the prospect pool, added a ton of picks, prospects via trades, etc. He wasn't as complacent as those nutjob Leafs fans want to make blokes believe when he was in Toronto, also having to also fit in Shanahan's idiotic ideas probably didn't help him during times he really wanted to make big moves to get the team to shift in the way he wanted them to, to break their cup drought.

On the Penguins, he hasn't done anything that wasn't something he could fix quickly or had a plan for and it hasn't crippled the Penguins prospect pool, draft capital, nor has it hurt them salary cap wise really, the biggest issue he had was becoming like the 2 GM's before him that couldn't see that Sullivan needed to be fired. Dubas ended up wanting to fire him mid way into his 2nd year as the Pens GM, from what we've learned, then did fire him at the end of the season - already a massive MASSIVE boost. I think Dubas' biggest mistakes were maybe coming in and putting way too much weight into Sullivan's recommendations like Graves, Jarry extension, etc. For a GM that quickly moved out goalies that didn't perform to his expectations, that wasn't a Dubas type of move imo.

Any of the players we are sour on, I think the Sullivan firing fixes, depending on if he continues his smart staff hires and goes and gets the right coach. The only buyout Dubas should be entertaining is Nedeljkovic, Jarry's buyout would sting too much and best/worse case scenario is he either goes LTIR with that injury that can't be fixed, is outplayed by Blomqvist/Murashov/Larsson, or he plays well enough for a stretch that a team trades for him. Ned I think is the easier one to remove with a 833k cap hit for his buyout for 2 seasons, that's peanuts.

This "fight" kind of epitomizes the type of heart Matthews plays with.

Matthews for some reason wouldn't get shit on as much as Marner would and it was always odd to me. But that clip is from that joke of a "North Division" season right? Where the Leafs were bounced by the Habs. What a joke that season was, the fact that the "ECF" was Habs vs VGK was like what? Everything about that season was garbage, Tampa would have never won the Cup if they just stuck to the normal format.

It's hilarious that last year in the playoffs the Leafs were 1-4 with Matthews in the line-up, 2-0 without him.

God that line of McGinn, Carter and Kapanen was a horrible line for the penguins!:baghead:
Another brilliant "line-up idea" by Mike Sullivan. Remember, Sullivan didn't care what type of player they were before the Pens, what they were good at etc, he didn't care. He played them however he saw fit, which was always the wrong f***ing choice.

Oilers can thank Byfield for making it this far.
No, that was all Hiller shortening his bench like Sullivan would at the dumbest times, then also not adjusting and pushing back on things with the refs as well. Hiller sucked when it came down to playing chess and just folded like a cheap chair. Blake of course destroying that team for years didn't help, but ignorant moves by Hiller is what cost them.

Vegas down in 5! Knoblauch is quickly becoming one of the league's top coaches.
No Ekholm, no problem.
Beating an awfully coached LA Kings and a weak as shit Vegas Golden Turds isn't really some legit shit mate. I don't see Knobber beating a team like Dallas.

This is probably one of the most pathetic playoffs since the pandemic cup where you had Montreal vs Vegas before the finals.

Yeah, they're just nasty and they have the skill to win games.

Bob's gotta stay stable though. Got real squirrely there for a few games.

Yea they're how you should want your team to play.
Yeah I find it incredibly refreshing watching an actually mentally tough team.

Pens of the last few years would’ve lost game 4 dominating through 2 periods and up 1-0 but getting Woll’d.

The guy I’ve been told you “have” to sign for any amount if he’s willing to come here.

Penguins legends Granlund, Kulikov and Kapanen with the last 3 playoff GWGs. I hope this does not mean the Caps win today since I don't think CAR has any Penguins legends.

I hope people will shut up for a while about the Oilers' D being the reason why their goalies sometimes struggle. They have clearly massively, it's almost like coaching actually matters.

Vegas' forwards looking completely lost for most of the series helped too. I have no idea how Dorofeev and Hertl managed to score so many goals in the regular season.
