GDT: Around the NHL - Playoff Edition

I am not judging. Interesting to hear though.

Except for McJesus and Drai they always seemed very vanilla to me. Kind of like how everyone hated Crosby when he was about as controversial an interview as white bread.

Edmonton's ineptitude despite those two made me even more indifferent. So, it is interesting to hear why people dislike them so much.
If they were building an awesome team around them it would justify them having them. But they’ve built one team that wasn’t egregiously flawed and that was last season. I just don’t really want to see it rewarded

It's the same as Bedard. When you're raised in Canada, are the next superstar and have that much attention on you from your teens, you don't really have a chance to be a kid. It's tough.
It's the weight of expectations, and constantly being monitored.
Plus the sheer amount of work they have to put in before they're ready for the NHL.
They're not properly emotionally developed.

Sid relaxed over time as he settled into his role as ambassador of the league. Let more of his personality out.
These guys only feel at ease during practices or in the room/on the plane with teammates.
We saw a little bit more from McDavid when he was on Spittin Chiclets. But most of the time he's got his shield on.

I respect Perry's grind. 2 weeks from turning 40, and still useful in the playoffs.
Comes back from multiple failures at the finish line, and keeps going. Even when he got kicked off the Hawks, that didn't make him hang 'em up.

Still put up 19 goals this year and played 81 games too, while only playing 11:56 a night.

So many teams losing after holding leads after two periods. Somewhere Sully is smiling and thinking "See, it's not just me!".

After the Canes tied it, the Caps showed for a bit that they could play without constant turtling... until they started turtlnig again and the dam finally broke. Yeah, CAR does this almost everyone and it often doesn't work too well for them in the playoffs but the top team in the conference shouldn't like they are on the PK for most of the game.

The Oilers are showing what playoff experience and good coaching can do to turn games that would have been narrow losses in previous seasons into narrow victories. Of course, having McDrai helps a bit too.

Barkov one should have never been a suspension. When they did that, to calm the waters they needed to suspend for the Jake hit. They didn’t and it turned into a shit show with that roid twat doing a Trouba impersonation.
No they didn't bc, they aren't the same hit.

Hagel absolutely got what he deserved. Barkov never had the puck nor was he ever in danger of touching it. He also blasted him in the head. It's the absolute definition of a defenseless player.

Jake was hit late (he had the puck), and never was hit in the head.

To recap what was different:

- Never had the puck
-Headshot
-Unsusepecting

But outside of those 3 things, yup they were EXACTLY the same

This shot really puts Pronger’s size into perspective. Even a guy like Messier looks puny compared to him. Now you know why players were terrified of playing against him.

Wasn't just his size. He was mean af. Very dangerous.
Then there's the mobility, which was great for that kinda frame. Plus the defensive awareness to predict what you're gonna do and wreck you.
He wasn't just some oaf, like Francois Leroux or something.

It's a small Forward's worst nightmare.

Toronto has done a lot better at responding rather than getting in their heads. Whatever is going on with their system and players is kinda irrelevant, they seem like they want to win rather than not wanting to lose like the last....10 years. Domi, Pacioretty and Nylander are clutch.
