This is what happens when organizations outsmart themselves. You don't break up a championship core prematurely, unless you absolutely have to because of a personal problem with the player or trouble in the room, a rift between stars, etc. MacKinnon LOVES Rantanen. Bednar was absolutely pissed when the deal was announced. What an abomination by Chris MacFarland here.

I read on the main boards that MacFarland traded Byram, Ritchie, a 1st, a 2nd and a 3rd just to fix the second-line center position (Mittelstadt and Nelson), only to be left with Charlie Coyle and a 5th rounder. Ouch!

I like the Avs but their GM is ruining a good thing.

That game was mind-numbingly boring until the first goal and one of the memorable ever after that.

Trading Rantanen for Necas, a known playoff underperformer, was a big gamble to begin with, and now it looks like utter madness.

Also, Jaime Benn tried to screw his team over with two really dumb penalties but DeBoer's game 7 voodoo is too strong. The fact that Stars despite that clown Benn is a testament to their roster.
