GDT: Around the NHL - Playoff Edition

16 assists?

I see 4 assists in 5 games with 3 of them coming in 1 game.

He was talking about his last 3 years in the playoffs, cumulatively.
16 assists over 16 games. Not just 1 goal.

Doubtless, he has regressed in the playoffs a bit in recent years, but it's not as bad as the narrative driver portrays it.

Oh gotcha.

Regardless, Kuch is an amazing player. But let's not pretend he was at Crosby's level. Both can be true statements.

There was a 3-year segment where Sid had 7 points in 14 games. That accounts for 3 of his last 4 playoffs.
If we're doing an honest comparison, then let's do both sides of the equation.

Kucherov: 171 points in 152 playoff games
Crosby: 201 points in 180 playoff games

Offensively, they're pretty damn close. Sid gets the leadership and defensive edge, cuz Kuch is a slacker. And obviously he plays a harder position.

And you touched on it why Sid has the edge- he's a more complete player.
Kuch and Sid are pretty equal from an offensive standpoint, but Crosby blows him away in most other aspects

No hate from me but it’s cringe that they were held up as the gold standard of the league when both their cups have giant asterisks. Winning B2B when there were huge season stoppages and no fans in the stands is not the same as a real dynasty.

Oh come ON, now. This isn't the whole story at all.

...

...you're totally leaving out the LTIR manipulation.

True. And they played a team from their own conference who shouldn’t have made the playoffs. It was a f***ing farce of a season that we only vaguely entertained as real because there was nothing to do

I mean I think it's pretty trash and obviously not within the spirit of the rules or the game (one that prides itself on the sheer grind of winning the Cup) but good luck convincing everyone else haha

They are the gold standard of the league of the last decade. They are #1 in point % in the regular season since 2015, and they have the #3 record in the playoffs. The two teams in front of them have played far fewer playoff games.
151 playoff games. Next closest is 103.

All other teams dealt with the same conditions during Covid. No one had fans, and they had the same salary cup rules.
They are hardly the first to cheat this way too. They just happened to win while doing it.

The most disgusting part of the Team Canada Rape trial in addition to what they did to EM is that there were 10 players in that room at one point. There’s 5 others that are absolute coward pieces of f***ing shit.

Also, Raddysh definitely did something as well and is playing dumb. So he was in the next room, came over when McLoed said want some head and then comes over and nothing happened? Right mate. You’re a f***ing low life piece of shit too.

All one has to do to see how f***ed the “male ego” is, is to read the main board about Panarin and the Team Canada Rape trial. The knuckle dragging f***wads that we see lurking in the shadows here that crawl out from between the cheeks of the Diddy and Masterton mould of men, should tell you why women hating men will never be wrong until shit being done to them like that stops, which will be never.

I like Cooper as a coach. His ability to adjust in 4 nations was great. But the issue in Tampa isn’t him. It’s their shitty cap and blowing their futures which is all on their current and previous Gm’s. Cooper can’t fix that. He can only use what they can barely afford to fill the roster with.

Also the cups are massive asterisks. They found a loophole and exploited the f*** out of it. To the point that makes it funny that the bloke the leafs hired to be their cap guru couldn’t even spin to help them do the same with similar results. Which is why I’m ok Dubas never enticed him over as Gm.

Cooper likely wants a new challenge anyway. I’d love to see him go and take on a Canucks team and see how much he can work his coaching magic on a team like that.

In fairness to Cooper, it is ultra hard to get the same level of buy-in with players who've won a few times before, and when you've been somewhere that long. It's fighting human nature. His voice won't hit as hard as fresh coaches.
And this was an extremely difficult opponent for a 1st round, juiced to the gills after the deadline.
Florida may win the whole thing.
It's actually ridiculous that they have to face each other so early. In the old and better system, Tampa woulda played Ottawa.

All other teams dealt with the same fake conditions yes. Montreal was a lottery team in a normal season in 2021 and they went to the finals against another Eastern team. They had an AHL coach who will never coach an NHL game again. Teams and players told themselves it was totally legit because they had no other choice but it’s been 4 years and I think we can all just admit the obvious now.

I don’t care about their regular season record. They were the biggest chokers ever until there were big season stoppages and no fans.

4 teams had their chance to knock out Montreal and couldn't do it. I didn't like the nature of their entry either, but they earned some respect there too. Tampa deserves acknowledgement for handling them so much better than everyone else.

They won 7 rounds between 2015-2018. It wasn't that bad. They just weren't good enough to win it all.
2019 was a glaring choke, sure, but I never viewed them like Washington or whatever.

The fact that a team who wouldn’t have made the playoffs in a real season beat 4 teams is just proof that it was a giant fluke season and that championship is an asterisk.

It's just the nature of the NHL. Parity league.
Goalies control results more than anyone else, and all teams get hot at some point.

It's like the Blues rattling off 12 straight outta nowhere this year. People's opinion of them shifted a ton over 1 month.

Unforeseen shit happens constantly.
