GDT: Around the NHL - Playoff Edition

Funny how the scoring and the drama increase when the refs haven't yet completely swallowed the whistles. Give them a few days and they will, though.

The Kings remind me of the Caps against us before they finally slew the dragon. That game was like a freaking Hollywood script - a 4 goal comeback led by the biggest star of the league, then a last minute winner. Before that a whole 2 minute 5 on 3 with no scoring to put the game away, two missed open nets, etc. Crazy stuff.

The Dallas game was pretty great too. Maybe if someone tells Brock Nelson that he is playing against the Pens he might actually show up because he has been a ghost so far. ;)

Also, Alex Petrovic is starting for a top team in the playoffs in 2025. Who saw that coming? Yes, I know the Stars have injuries but still, pretty funny.

You can say that for the Kings too for allowing 5. And then by that metric, the Oilers offense didn’t do their jobs lol.

If Oilers showed up to play for the first 40, it’s a different game. Or maybe the Kings are so good defensively, they managed to shut the Oilers out for like half the game? I dunno. I feel like Edmonton wasn’t ready to play.
I see it as the cumulative results over 60 mins, for both the offense and defense. Doesn't matter if it's front-loaded or backloaded.
Yeah, the Kings failed defensively too. Although I would say McDavid was particularly exceptional last night on those goals and it's extremely hard to shut that down.
He did cheat on that goal where he beat Kopitar, however. He held his stick to create the space. Refs either didn't see it or didn't call it because of the score and game management.

I know you're trolling, but the OV dick riding this year on these forums has been exhausting. He hasn't had an argument for being the better player since 2010.
I think it’s absolutely hilarious for all the wrong reasons the way the NHL glazed the f*** out of Ovechkin. If you know who he’s a huge fan boy of back home and the stuff that’s been going on, it’s like spitting in their face.

It’s even funnier because they are basically publicly wanking him off while also not commenting on Russia as a team for the future Nations face off and the Olympics. I find all of that absolutely fascinating with how the NHL just continuously acts like they’re above all the other leagues and yet do some of the dumbest shit imaginable and then act like it’s nothing and also boldly lie to people when they’ve been caught in lies.

It’s why the NHL will never grow above the other 3 leagues when it can leapfrog two of them, definitely never will be a bigger draw than the NFL. But their reach is shit, blackouts everywhere. Now everything has a subscription so you can’t even watch without some awful price tag (looking at you Rogers, dumb wanker) for mediocre on air product.

The league has zero idea how to market the game and it’s a lot to do with the cronyism of the head office. Its hire a dumb f*** mate that one of them played with or is pals with. Probably the league with the least qualified people running it. Like George Parros and Getzlaf as department of player safety is the biggest shit on someone’s lawn, hey two dipshits that injured players with dirty shit should punish dirty plays lol. It’s like asking rapists to be on the jury for a rape trial.

I don't think either the Kings or the Oilers showed up for a battle, they both gave each other way too much space to do damage and they both took the opportunity to do it. For these two it's like one of the most regular match ups tied with the Pens vs Rangers series, they should be familiar with each other but the Kings always find ways to blow it. I see those games as one offs, like Dallas vs Avs game 1 vs Game 2, went from a 5-1 game to a battle that was closer in Game 2.

I think the Habs game was similar, wasn’t until the third where they realized oh hey it’s the playoffs and OTL makes it closer to us having an early summer break. But the Kings vs Oilers games are usually a shit show for both teams defensively. Last year the first game was a 7-4 Game 1 and then a 5-4 Game 2 with a 6-1 Game 3. It's funny that their 2023 match up it started off as close games and then it just went bad losses for the Kings losing the 2-1 lead when 3 straight losses of 5-4(OT), 6-3, and 5-4. I really hope the Kings knock them out this time.

None of NJ, Toronto or Ottawa really look like they have any hope of doing anything in the playoffs tbh.

The Battle of Florida will probably be a killer series though. I think Tampa's got it tbh but Florida could be a nightmare.

Incredible eye-hand coordination on Bennett’s goal…what a play and pass too

I think the winner of this Florida series will be the EC rep in the SC
