I always felt Clement was a buffoon. He knew just enough about the league to get by, but it was obvious he didn't know his ass from his elbow when push came to shove. Thorne carried him, as did Emrick before that.
Clement used to ride NJ Transit to the games and I got to talk with him on the train several times. He had much stronger opinions in person than he did on the air

I really do think we are taking too much from 1 game. I think the Habs would have given the Piles fits although they would have been favored. Oh well.

I don't think its so much that they lost but It's how they lost. Those high OZ turnovers which turn into transition offense for Tampa will be there all series unless they want to try to chip and chase which won't work because they aren't built for that.

Outside of injuries or the Refs letting the Habs get away with Islander level obstruction/cheap shots I don't see an avenue to victory for them. They're a dollar store version of the Islanders who couldn't beat Tampa WITH those things.

Marc-Andre Fleury having as many Vezina trophies as Lundqvist is absolutely insane when comparing their regular season careers. Hank really should have had 2 or 3. He was robbed in 2013, which is arguably his best season, and he should’ve won one of them in the 2005-2009 area.

Doesn’t he write for a Toronto paper?
I don't think so. You might be thinking of Steve Simmons, who is equally obnoxious.

Cox recently wrote a book, which some people will unfortunately buy, but I don't believe he's affiliated with a network/paper anymore.

I know Simmons is terrible as well. His Twitter must be one of the reasons Cocks doesn’t write for a paper anymore. That book should be on the clearance rack. He thinks McDavid should have won the lady byng, wonders why if Slavic was such a gentleman, why didn’t he win the Norris? Dude has to be trolling lol.

He's acting out for attention.

I was watching a lot of 94 clips a couple years back. Gary Thorne was at about Sam Rosen's current ability of identifying players. Don't think he's gotten much better almost 30 years later. Great voice, but I'm glad ESPN didn't go back to that well.

Don't speak to soon, there is hope for us Gary Thorne fans.

From an Athletic article....

How ESPN built its NHL broadcasting team, programming expectations and what about Gary Thorne?

What about Gary Thorne? That’s been the biggest question I see on social media after the announcement.

I spoke to Bob Rosen, his agent, three or four times since the middle of March. And we’re not done yet. Bob and I are going to hopefully talk again tomorrow. We’re going to just want to leave it that we’ve had the conversation and let the dust settle from the announcement that we made today. And then we’ll kind of pick it up from there.
