Around the NHL - Part XLV (Playoffs edition)

Anyone else thinking, based on that challenge, that we might have dodged a bullet with Knoblauch? He might be the type of coach that can help the team through the regular season but struggles under the pressure of the big stage.

Game 7 of the SCF last year. The literal farthest you can go without winning.

Back in the SCF the very next year.

Now we “dodged a bullet” because Knoblauch made an aggressive but questionable challenge in period 1 of game 1 while up 1-0?

All it shows is a lack of understanding by people how that challenge happens. That is 95 percent on the video coach. Knoblauch isn't making that challenge, that's not how these orgs work nowadays. The more that some people post on here the more you know they don't know

If we had hired Knob we wouldn't have gotten to experience the pure bliss of having Laviolette !!

He's made it to two finals in his first two seasons as a head coach in the NHL...I think he's doing something right. It's also one call in the first game of the series.

Just curious, what's the average height and weight of the 12 defensemen playing in the game tonight?

Oilers avg is 204.5 lb and 6ft 2 and 7/8
Panthers are 207.5lb and 6ft 2 and 5/8
Rangers (Fox, Miller, Soucy, Borg, Vaak, Schneider) are 203.3lb and 6ft 3

Tallest player is 6'6 and shortest is 5'11
Heaviest is 220lb and lightest 180

Out of the rangers d you can remove soucy and vaak, neither would even be on the roster for these two teams

It's those four pounds.

I feel a similar question was asked earlier in the season. The difference in height/weight as an average across any playing group will SFA. And even then it would all depend on where the muscle is; is it in the legs (stronger skating) or chest (can push and defend the net). Same with height, surely wingspan is more important as a measurement? And the smaller guys (like Fox) will almost always bring something else to the game that lets them stay on the ice.
It's mindset, system and ability to get to where you need to be that will matter
