Around the NHL - Part XLV (Playoffs edition)

Nah, NYR just target awful players.

But magically once those awful players end up on teams with strong cultures/expectations and the player in leadership roles on those teams go above and beyond what their contracts say, it's uncanny that these players suddenly become oh-so-coveted.

Maybe, just maybe, it's how the players/leaders in NYR conduct themselves and what expectations are actually enforced/imposed on them by their peers, not which players NYR have targeted. There's that mini-story going around about some FLA player turning a puck over in the neutral zone who then got a talking to by his teammates about how that's not how they play. I couldn't imagine anyone on this team sitting another teammate down and trying to iron out their bad habits.

It was a meme for a minute that this group acted like "Aw shucks, we'll get 'em next time, friends" was their team mantra, but that seems to be what this team's culture actually is. Good try everyone, you all did so amazing, we'll try again next game if we're feeling up for it.
I mean the coach also doesn’t use these guys like idiots. Only the NYR bring these guys in to play on the top pair instead of realistically evaluating what they’re capable of. The organization is the poster child for nepotism and “we know best”

Also the panthers play the game to the limit. There’s no other team that plays to the edge like they do. The brialliant thing is that they make so many plays that are over the line knowing that the refs can’t call all of them. It also pushes the boundaries and what the refs will see as normal if they’re constantly always that high octane
