I honestly have no memory of McDonagh doing hockey pre 2021, when ESPN got the rights back. If you recall, '94 was the last year of the local teams being able to broadcast every playoff round, so if I wasn't at the game, I always watched on MSG, not ESPN.

Being at practices and taking shots from the likes of Crosby + Celibrini should already be a great experience, but yeah, I hope so too. Hopefully MAF is giving him all the pointers too.

Will Smith took a while before he was able to provide consistent contribution in SJ. His ATOI slowly ramped up throughout the season from ~13 min/game to 19+ min/game.
I suspect those two both will need similar ramp up time.

He's also a much better skater than Leonard or Gabe. That matters in today's NHL.
