Around the NHL - Part XLV (Playoffs edition)

In this instance? Yeah.

It's happened with several guys though. Pionk, Howden, Buchnevich (who to his credit, had a really strong series all together but people only brought him up the one game he actually scored), Lindgren that one game where he didn't completely get completely stomped, etc.
Bro some guy has been posting every time when Morgan fkn Barron has one of his 6 goals a year. People just enjoy following old Rangers and having a sad when they do well.

that blue 96 in the top right corner has less to do with mikkola himself than with every other player on the team.

It's not about strengthening anybody's argument. You said the whole league passed on him (or that I implied the whole league passed on him) which nobody ever did.

The pick was #20 so here's what we missed.

The only guy that's all that meaningful is Jackson LaCombe and I think it's a stretch that we take him at 20.

The trade deserved to be criticized at the time, which I've done, many times. Looking back, I don't think it moves Rangers history an inch.
Connor McMichael and his 57 points and 5 points in 5 playoff games would fill a huge need at center. Maybe less so Shane Pinto but he's also a good player. Of course the Rongos would have drafted like Samuel Poulin and John Beecher or some other garbage.

I think my favorite scenario right now would be Dallas winning the whole thing while taking out Carolina in the Finals.

The ultimate Rantanen revenge tour.
That's my ideal outcome as well. Dallas was my pick to win the Cup last year, so maybe I was off by one. They need to get Robertson and Heiskanen back.

If they do?

With the stupidest forward depth assembled.

I don’t think they can but I hope they do. Going in on offense and 2 defensemen who are any good would rock.

Im being facetious but I do think its their year. Especially if Vagus takes out the Oilers. Oettinger is the best goalie left imo.

How is Dallas going to win the Cup without a generational 1C?

IF they finally get over the hump it will be because their forward depth is stupidly deep.

Rantanen
Robertson
Hintz
Duchene
Johnston
Granlund
Benn
Seguin
Marchment
Dadonov
Bourque
Steel
Back
Blackwell

And their defense is better than people give it credit for, especially with Heiskanen returning.

Heiskanen
Harley
Lindell (top 10 defensive D IMO)
Ceci
Bichsel
Lyubushkin

And a good starter in Oettinger.

Bichsel, Ceci and Lyubushkin play heavy. Bichsel has good upside as a rookie with huge size and good skating. The other three are excellent.

Seguin’s been point per game since coming back from injury. Benn keeps being effective. Marchment had 47 points in 62 games. Granlund put up 66 points and is a center. Duchene had 82 points and plays center. Hintz had 67 in 76 and is a center. Johnston had 71 and can play center. Benn and Seguin can still play center. Their depth is just stupid. And they do have a point per game center in Duchene and another who is nearly point per game in Hintz.

Dallas is just a stupidly deep team. If they DON’T win it all, the lack of a true elite 1C is probably the only thing you really can point to. Maybe they could use one more top 4 quality D, which Bichsel may grow into.

TAPS THE SIGN

Aside from the top 5% of the league and bottom 10% of the league, the players in the remaining 85% have charts are wildly volatile and therefore absolutely useless. Every time I see someone post a chart as some sort of definite proof for making a point without any further analysis, I'm going to respond with TAPS THE SIGN.

I wouldn't call this wildly volatile.

There's a clear pattern outside of his offense in 2025. He's been solid with an average team, great with a great team, and dog shit playing with Schneider.

And generally...you're right. Lots of guys fluctuate wildly. They're complete passengers who react almost wholly to their teammates. This is not one of those guys. He's been good at defense and bad at offense, generally speaking, pretty consistently.

You wouldn't say that going from 60%, to 30%, to 90% is wildly volatile? What this tells you is that this model does an extremely poor job of adjusting for context and should not be used for player evaluation or decision making on whether or not you should be interested in adding a player to your team.

And what should be used, watching a player twice and having vibes about it?

Basically, what you're telling me is that we have to factor in Quality of Teammates.

Next you're gonna tell me that wrestling's not real.
