Around the NHL - Part XLV (Playoffs edition)

I still can't believe the Stars won that series with... that defense.

No disrespect to Harley who is great but that group collectively is worse than what the Rangers ran out there this season. Even with Hesikanen coming back it's going to be a sore spot for them moving forward.

Ryan Lindgren was low key the worst he's ever been in this series. His xG rel was actually significantly worse in this series than they were for the Rangers during their run to the ECF last year (where they were easily the worst on the team at -13.6%. He was at almost -19% going into G7 and he graded out 6th out of 6 in G7 so that's going to drop even further.)

There are some guys that you just can't hide.

The Avs aren't a throwaway team and they had to be taken to a Game 7 by a team missing two of their big stars.

No pun intended.

Watched the highlights again, that was beautiful legal pick play by Steel on the Stars first goal, he takes two guys with him. I think Lindgren goes right to complain about it to the ref, but you aren’t getting that called.

Lots of stupid GMs out there. Guys who get the job on 3rd base and think they hit a triple. Drury isn’t anything special but he’s frighteningly near the top. He got the job with 2 strikes on him with these heinous contracts Gorton gave out.
I’m looking at the 2021-22 NYR roster and trying to find the bad Gorton contracts. Trouba obviously, and then what? There’s enough flexibility to mold the team into anything.

They readjusted g7 #'s so he didn't do quite as poorly as I initially thought he would, but mother f***er graded out WORSE in this series than he did for the Rangers last year where he basically tried to give away games.

Before anyone asks, yes this is 5v5. He sucked on the PK too though.

They stunk before winning the Cup too. They're still youngish, but they're on the verge of being a really disappointing group.
Makar and MacKinnon carried them as far as they can....and then you need the big saves....and the rest of the team to weigh in . I watched these guys last night and they were BOTH FLYING ....we are a long way from that level at this point .

Well MacK certainly did his part.

Makar was painfully average in this series bordering on bad. If you’re looking at underperformances based on expectations he’s #1.

11.6 to Panarin forever to give us nothing in the playoffs. Absolute killer. Derailed the rebuild. Points on the power play look nice on the hockey card but we’ve got nothing to show for it in the playoffs. It was the highest AAV in hockey for the majority of it. But he’s gotten a pass.

If Dallas can get healthy think they have a good shot also.

To advance? Yeah.

To come out of the west? Going to be really tough to do with that defense even if Heiskanen returns at 100%. Oettinger is going to have to do some epic shit somewhere at some point for them to have a chance

Their dream road right now would be Winnipeg/Edmonton/not the Panthers. I think EDM/DAL would be a toss up. Edmonton's goaltending (well lack of it) really overshadowed what was an otherwise dominant performance by the Oilers over LA and LA was one of the better teams in the league this season.
