Helly Makes every playoff team look like the 80's Oilers.
Igor is easily worth 3 mil more than him. 0 pressure market and crumbles as soon as the games get important
Or, goalies aren’t worth paying at all. Watch Edmonton make the finals with Pickard in net.
Winnipeg power play looking good even without Scheifele. Just basic ass movement and circling the zone and working it down low every time the PK cheats up high. It’s not that complicated
It'll be ignored unfortunately. This ship has already sailed.Or, goalies aren’t worth paying at all. Watch Edmonton make the finals with Pickard in net.
Edmonton is the outlier in the other direction with McJesus and the Mad German. Bad goaltending is sinking pretty much every other team

Pittsburgh (twice!), St. Louis, and Vegas already won Cups after being forced to use their AHL guy.
Hill turned out to be good, but still.
Meh. Colorado won with Kuemper. Vegas won with Hill. St Louis won with Binnington. Pittsburgh won with Murray. Chicago won with Crawford/Huet. Elite centers win Cups. Where’s Vasilevsky right now? How many Cups does he have if he were an islander? Where’s Hellebuyck? Colorado could beat Dallas with Blackwood. Carolina never has goaltending. Goalie is simply not a position to invest significantly in. Should you have a starter? Of course. Is there really a difference between a 7M starter and an 11M starter? Can’t convince me.
It's definitely possible. You need a Hall of fame center in many cases to win a Cup, that’s what makes the goalie matter less. But you still need whatever goalie you have playing at an elite level. Really I like @Machinehead take that you just need good players at every lineup spot. Igor’s contract isn’t going to hurt us. It’s possible to build a cup winning roster with a high paid goalie.

I would still by my goaltender what the union required and not a cent more.

Call me an optimist I guess I’ll take that mantle.
Sure, I agree. I just don’t think, given the choice, my goalie would be one of my top 5ish highest paid players.
There’s 32 starters in the NHL. Theres 96 first line forwards and 192 top six towards. 64 top pairing D and 128 top 4. Roughly estimating, of course. Almost any goalie you pay is going to be top 25 in the world. I would rather pay to have top talents at the other positions. I’d rather have the 25th best goalie in the world alongside the 5th and 12th best D and 10th, 23rd and 40th best forwards than pay for the 3rd best goalie and downgrade at the other positions.
I mean, yeah, I agree that the culture is such that not signing him is a fireable offense. We kind of just got stuck with this. It wasn't like Drury had the idea.My thinking is that Igor is the safest bet in hockey right now to give you that elite goaltending in the playoffs year in and year out. We had him and you’re jobless if you let him leave with no replacement. I know the meme is that we’re talentless but if the rangers played to their capabilities this year we’d very likely be in the drivers seat to play an “on paper” worse Florida team in the ECF again.

Granted, I would like to see this team buck a trend for the first time in their existence.
Youre not wrong. I just like to have hope in the reality of the situation. It’s not as bleak as we make it, but I acknowledge seeing is believing after the season we just had and the repetitive playoff exits. I’m watching these playoffs and no one is all that impressive that we can’t be back in contention with a few moves.
I admire your optimism. Personally, I watch games like Florida/Tampa and Dallas/Colorado and I see speed and intensity this team is simply not capable of. Those four teams, Vegas, LA/Edmonton. I genuinely do not believe this roster is ABLE to keep up with them.
