Too bad about the Devils being the first team knocked out. Well.......not really. I was looking at some of their commentary. Hating on Hamilton, hating on Markstrom, hating on Mercer etc. etc. Markstrom is an aging goaltender and he's always had a tendency to be either hot or cold. For a while he was good season.....not so good season. Now he's just kind of average. They're really in kind of the same spot they were before. They thought they fixed their goaltending. They overestimated.

On Howden---he could have spent a year or two in Hartford and it wouldn't have hurt him. The Rangers were so thin on NHL talent at the time that instead he played with the big team and he wasn't all that ready for the NHL even if he was better than Lias. We didn't have much depth on the Rangers or all that much worthwhile with the Pack. So we took his growing pain years. With Vegas he took the experience he gained with us and was put in a more structured role with better players and still a young player he got better. Sometimes a player's second team is the one he begins to shine. FWIW he's still really a bottom 6 guy. Would I rather have him than Rempe or Edstrom? No. Maybe Howden over Carrick and I like Carrick. I'd have to think about that some more.

By the way Rangers drafted Noah Laba with the pick they got from Vegas for Howden. I like Laba quite a lot.
